Mary A. Hovey, age 93, of Escanaba, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 8, 2020 at the Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba.

Mary was born March 31, 1927, in Escanaba, MI the daughter of Edwin and Gladys (Sarasin) Buckland. She graduated from Escanaba Area Schools.

Mary worked as a fashion manager at Montgomery Wards for numerous years until it closed. She was an avid archer, and enjoyed bow hunting. Always being the first to bag a deer or a bear. Mary and her Husband, John Hovey, were officers at Red Buck Archery club for many years.

Mary is survived by:
2 Daughters: Jalene (Tom) Polkey of Rapid River, MI
Sherry (Bob) Potvin of Escanaba, MI
5 Grandchildren: Wendy (Mike) Moore of Virginia, Michael (Ashli) Potvin of Florida, Lori (Rob) Edmundson of Wisconsin, David Potvin of Gladstone, and Lisa (Russ) Cowart of Texas.

And 2 Great Great Grandchildren

In addition to her Parents, Mary was preceded in death by:
Husband: John Hovey
2 Brothers: Vernon and Robert Buckland
Sister-In-Law: Mary Lou Buckland
Niece: Sue Meleski
And Nephew: Vernon “Buck” Buckland, Jr.

Family will receive close friends and family on Saturday, June 13, 2020 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Escanaba. Burial will take place at Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells, MI. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Hovey family.

    I am not sure that I ever met Mary but I am a good friend to Sherry and Bob Potvin. I am sure that she is watching over us now!

    Sherry, so sorry to hear about your Mother’s passing. I know you will miss her but you have many wonderful memories to cherish. Even though I didn’t know her, I’m sure she was as sweet a person as you are. It’s comforting to know she is released of all pain & suffering & is in the loving arms of our Heavenly Father❤️

    Mary will be missed by those of us in the sport of Archery who were so blessed by her sharing time with us over the years either at the Escanaba Civic Center or the Red Buck Range. What a kind, loving and gracious lady. Rest In Peace !!!!

    Mary shared a room with my grandma Hank at Bishop Noa and we all got to know Mary well. She was such a sweet, kind lady and I enjoyed hearing her enthusiasm for hunting and the outdoors. I consider myself lucky to have been able to know her. She was uniquely special!

    As a Senior Companion I first met Mary at NorthWoods Place, and then was with her at Bishop Noa Home as well. She was always happy to see me and we always had a good visit. She will be missed very much.

    Mary shared a room with my grandma at Bishop Noa. I would often take my 2 yr old daughter to visit in the evening and we always enjoyed visiting with Mary as well. Mary would always come over to visit and play with my daughter. She was a great roommate to my grandma and will be missed very much. I’ve thought about her often these last few months and I hope she is at peace now.
