It still seem so unreal that when I come to Gladstone I no longer will see a very dear friend since grade school year. All of you who miss him so much daily are in my thoughts and prayers. The beautiful memorial mass with a pack church was a great tribute to Mark and his entire family. We will always remember him with love and laughs.

Mrs Z., Adam, Marisa, Grace, and families, I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. Mark was a great man, and was loved by all. I’ll always remember his warm smile and great attitude while we were growing up, and going to school right across the street from the Zimmermans home. You are all in our thoughts and prayers through this difficult time.

Though I left Esky years ago, I have a lot of good memories of Mark from HNHS, Class of ’68, and enjoyed touching base at a couple reunions. A sad loss – still so young and vibrant.

Brian and I have only good memories of our life long friend. Mark and I have been friends from our days at All Saints and Holy Name, right through the years of raising our kids together. My children have only good memories of Mark too. He lived out the motto “LIVE-LOVE-LAUGH”. As far as specific memories, one of my favorites was when Mark would recall the All Saints 8th grade boys performing “McNamara’s Band”. He claimed to still have the costume! He leaves a powerful legacy. Mark lives on in his son Adam, and Marisa and Grace are beautiful and sensative women. Our hearts are broken for Sue, the kids and his grandbabies, but he was so proud of all of you.

Sue, Adam, Marissa, Grace, John, Marilyn and Family,

We are very sad to hear of Mark’s death. He was such a wonderful neighbor and caring friend. He was so fun to have at our neighborhood block parties. He was always laughing and kept us laughing. We are blessed to have known him. Whenever we were out in the yard in the summer, we could always hear Mark playing his guitar in his backyard. We liked to sit quietly and just listen to him and we also enjoyed doing our yard work to his wonderful music. He will be missed. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Love,

    Sue, Grace & Family,

We are truly going to miss Mark, he was a wonderful person and inspiration to us all. Although our family became friends with you just these past few years through softball, we feel as though we have known you our whole life! I liked to call Mark “granola man”; he would be eating yogurt and nuts and the rest of us would be eating chips and dip! We had the privilege to camp with Mark, Sue & Grace last summer. Mark graced us with his musical skills around the camp fire with Gordon Lightfoot’s “The Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald” – he made sure we all knew the words!! Mark will always be with you, keep the memories alive. We love you all and are here for you always.

    Dear Sue,

I am very sorry to hear of your loss. While I haven’t seen any of you for a long time, I have fond memories of when we lived next door to one another upstairs on Main Street in Esky many years ago. (My daughter Meghan was a baby.) Having known Mark through Mary, it sounds as though the kind heart that was evident back in high school just continued to grow in love for his family and community. Please convey my sympathies to Mary and the rest of the Zimmermann family. May your wonderful memories sustain you.

Sue and family, I am so sorry to hear about Mark. I also graduated from Holy Name but a few years behind him. You would know me better as the manager of Claires in the mall. Sue, John, Marilyn and the rest of the Zimmerman family, I have known Mark and your family since our family first moved to Gladstone (Kipling) back in ’69. Since our parents became such good friends it made sense that we became friends. Mark had a way of making you feel so comfortable when you were around him and your right, he sure could make you laugh. We both shared a common love in guitar playing and music with both of us leading youth worship groups. Through my sister Anne we’ve traded songs back and forth over the years. I know that at a time like this words cannot always convey the message we want to send. Zimmerman clan know that the Leonardi’s (all of us) will help you through this in anyway we can, it’s what good friends do! You were there for us when my pops passed away and we are here for you. I will be praying for you all and Mark, I will miss you my “brother” but we will meet again in God’s kingdom one day! All my love!

Dear Sue and ALL the Zimmermann family,

It was with great sadness I learned of Mark’s passing. I have known most of you for many years, and I have always treasured the blustery winter day when Mark and I spent a whole day skiing on Marquette Mountain.

Marilyn & John, it is with great sorrow to realize you have lost another son.

May God give you all courage and strength in the coming days.

    Zimmermann Family,

I am sorry for your loss. I am so honored to have known Mark. It may have been short but it was surely great. We had many laughs together from coaching ball, to the hotel stays, to swimming in the pool (water ball fights), to camping and having Mark singing around the camp fire. Mark was always there for the kids. I quess you could say “he was a kid himself.”

    Zimmerman Family,

I am deeply saddened by your loss. Mark was an incredible man. One of my favorite memories of Mark..which he reminded of me just last summer, was when, Adam, Micah & I took Mark’s car out on the pipeline mudding. We got it stuck and didn’t have it back in time for him to be to work. He didn’t think it was funny at the time..but did last summer. He was a man who loved his family and friends and put them first in his life. You are in my thoughts and prayers. With love and sympathy~ Erin Phillips & family

We extend our deepest condolences to the Zimmerman family. I only knew Mark since he became an electrician, but as I read through everything above here, the traits and qualities that are the true measure of accomplishment in one’s life are listed in detail by every line of tribute. I feel the same way about Mark. While I only saw him at work, I considered him a good friend. Mark was a kind, warm, caring, and genuine guy. My life was made better for having known him.

Mark and I played football together one year. I was a year behind Mark at Holy Name. We spoke briefly at the HN all years reunion Aug/2005. Even though it had been 36 years since my family moved from Escanaba Mark remembered me. Sad news, he was a great guy. I was in Marcie’s class at HN, but my family moved half way through our sophmore year.

I’m sure you don’t know me but I played alot of ball with Mark at the Jr.High and in Fossil League. On Wednesday during our game, Mark elbowed me in the mouth. He felt badly. I thought it was kind of funny. This empathy he had for others was always there as we talked of our basketball aliments. Mark was a funny, caring, wonderful man who I thank God for putting in my life. My deepest condolences.

Myself along with my wife Jane were classmates of Marks while at Holy Name. Mark and I chummed together for a while in high school. I had the privilege of knowing this wonderful man for the last ten years. Sometimes working side by side 40 hours a week. Mark was a breath of fresh air. With his laughter and friendship the days flew by. Listening to him talk about his family and the love and joy they shared was an inspiration. Mark taught me, not only about our job but also about life. Take time to smell the roses, build memories with your children and love your family like there is no tomorrow.

What a great person he was and he will be deeply missed.

Dear Sue, Adam, Marisa, Grace, Marilyn, John, & family:

It was very difficult for me to hear of Mark’s passing. He was an extraordinarily and genuinely friendly person. I didn’t know him very well, but I was blessed to be a part of the ensemble/youth choir at All Saints and to worship through music with Mark. He was very talented at guitar and had a wonderful voice.

What I will always remember about Mark is how encouraging he was when I talked to him about playing the guitar Sister Therese had given me. He restrung it for me and fixed it for me once, and taught me which strings were which notes at choir practice. He was so helpful and kind, and played a major part in my growing passion for music. For our graduation, he gave me a capo for my guitar. It is a treasured possession. I just want you all to know that more than just being present and accompanying our songs, he made a lasting impact on the students in the choir.

I always looked forward to running into him at church and chatting when I’d been away at school for a while. More than anything, his gregarious personality is what will leave a permanent impression on those lives he touched, and God surely blessed us to make him part of our lives.

May you find comfort in God, family, and friends in this difficult time, and be assured of my condolences and prayers.

I am so sorry to hear about Mark. My heart goes out to you in these difficult times. I wish I could be there to mourn with you and be of any consolation.

My favorite memories of Mark will always be of him yelling at the dog when we were kids. I could hear his deep voice all the way to my house, so I know that dog, Celtic, could hear him! That dog was so smart it could always get out of his penn and I know it drove Mark crazy for years. He loved that dog though, he had a big heart and that’s what I’ll remember most of all.

I am Mark’s 56-year-old cousin and have only the best memories of him. My eyes filled as I read the obituary as it just rang true–the friend and people- person–that is so right on! Of course, Mark and I toddled about together in our early years, then crossed paths again in high school though separated by gender in our Holy Name School building… One of my fondest times with Mark was at community college in English class–I think we spent more time goofing around and just enjoying one another… too nice. My heart is sad for the loss of a good man and cousin and I while I know I can not really estimate the loss to Sue and the rest of our family, I know that it is both tragic and great. May all of you be comforted as time passes by remembering the smile, the tease, and so much more. Love,

Although I only knew Mark a short while, he was very warm and welcoming to me, and helped make me feel like a part of your family. I will very much cherish the memories from this summer, up at Washington Island, with him playing guitar by the campfire while we attempted to sing along. It was one of those perfect kinds of nights that not too many families get to enjoy together.

When I saw him again at Adam and Jen’s wedding reception, Mark scooped me up in a big bear hug and said, “Hello cutie!”. He instantly put a smile on my face and made me feel like I was right where I was supposed to be.

I am grateful for these brief memories and very, very sad for your entire family at his loss. Susan
