Marion Charlotte Olson, age 83, of 1423 Michigan Avenue, Gladstone, passed away Thursday November 24, 2011 at the Christian Park Health Care Facility in Escanaba following a lengthy illness.Marion was born July 7, 1928 in Escanaba the daughter of David and Agnes Westerberg. She was raised in Escanaba and she graduated in 1946 from Escanaba High School. Following graduation, Marion worked for Delta Hardware in Escanaba. She later worked as the church secretary for Bethany Lutheran Church in Escanaba.

Marion was united in marriage to Roy Olson on June 24, 1950 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Escanaba. Following their marriage, Marion served as church secretary for several years at First Lutheran Church in Gladstone. They made their home in Gladstone where they raised their five children.
Marion was a very active member of First Lutheran Church in Gladstone where she served on several committees. She also served as a school board member for 12 years on the Gladstone Board of Education. She was well known for her baking and her great sense of humor. Her children fondly remember her cookies, coffee cakes, rye bread and cinnamon rolls. She was always happy to share the goodies she made with neighbors, friends and family. She will be sadly missed.

Sons: John (Kwanae) Olson of Gig Harbor, WA, Scott Olson of Gladstone, and Brian (Hazel) Olson of Lexington Park, MD.
Daughters: Kris Olson of Indian River, MI and Beth (Bill) Matzke of Alpena, MI
Brother: Wilbert Westerberg of Pinckney, MI.
Sisters: Betty (Robert) Lungaard of Indianapolis, IN and Carol Hinich of Chicago, IL.
13 grandchildren: Scott, Ben, Nate, Johnny, Sarah, Jennifer, R.J. (Cinthya), Joshua (Christine), Errol, Leslie, Hannah, Andrea and Isaac.
Great Grandchildren: L.J., Kaden and Colin
In addition to her parents, brothers Roy and Carl, and sisters Ellen, LaVerne and Mildred preceded Marion in death.

    So sorry to hear about Marion. I will always cherish the times I got to spend with her and so will Nick (my son). I wish I could have been there for the services, but I didn’t get word until the day of the services and was out of the country at the time. Love to all of you and hope to see you soon.     I Too Remember Mrs. Olson’s Cookies Growing up in Gladstone. I hung around with Brian and I always was treated as a guest every time I came over. What a great lady. She will be sadly missed. My sincere prayers go out to Brain and Family.

    I have many fond memories of Marion, she was always so kind. She used to play bridge with my mother Sue and I can still see them sitting around the card table. Marion made a awesome coffee cake and she was kind enough to share her recipe. I always think of her when I make it and that will never change.
