Marilyn Zimmerman

Resided in Gladstone, MI
Died March 26, 2011

Marilyn Theresa Zimmermann
With elegance and class she lived her life. She was first and foremost a mother to her nine children and a wife to her husband of 61 years. She was an artist who used her creativity to entertain her children with beautiful paper dolls and painted holiday windows. She instilled in her children a practicality and no-nonsense approach to carry with them as they lived their lives. Marilyn

I have never forgotten the family in my life. I hope that you are in peace and that the rest of the family is fine. My condolences in your loss.

To John, Mary and Family: Upon returning from Illinois I was saddened to read Marilyn’s Obit in the Iron Mountain Paper. Marilyn graduated with my sister Janet and a friend of my brother Richard. Being 8 years younger, I was always fasinated with her grace and beauty. John was our mail carrier back in the 50’s. My husband and I had the good fortune of meeting her daughter Mary, and her daughter, who was a great Jazz saxaphone player here in Iron Mountain before they moved to Wisconsin. They too carry on the class of their Mother and Grandmother. I was looking forward to seeing them at the annual Baybank meeting in May as we always do but am very sad to think we will not see them this year. Our sympathy and prayers go out to the entire Zimmerman family. You can be so proud to have had such a wonderful lady for a Mother and Grandmother. She will be missed by so many. I met your Mother & Dad about 25 years ago as a new member of UPHO-I worked in Ishpeming and saw your parents often at the meetings-when your Mother would talk with me, it was if I was the only person in the room. She paid close attention to the person she was visiting with. Later as your Dad started having medical problems, her paid special attention to his needs and made sure that he was able to participate as long as possible. They often spoke of their children & grandchildren, you were all special to them. I have great memories of your parents.
God’s Blessings to all of you as you deal with this great loss in your family. You are in my prayers.

My sadness upon learning of Marilyn’s death is only offset by cherished memories of a dear childhood friend. Marilyn truly was a woman of the finest character and a deep spiritual nature –what a beautiful legacy! We last saw each other at the class of 1947 reunion in 2006 and is a memory I cherish.

To Uncle John and all my cousins, our prayers and thoughts are with you during this time of losing your dear mom. So many memories of when we were kids, especially the family visits at our house on Christmas day and the many years that I used to deliver the Daily Press to your house that my dad brought home. John & family,
I want to express my deep sympathy to you; I can only imagine what Marilyn’s loss means to you. It was evident how much she loved her family and she knew that they loved her. For me, Marilyn was an extraordinary woman whom I thought of as not only a friend but a mentor. She truly was a grace filled and graceful lady. She has left her mark on me; her life was a pattern to guide and inspire. My words are so inadequate however, know that I loved her and I pray that God will comfort you and ease your pain with all the wonderful memories you have of her. My love to all.
