Lois J. (Soderman) Buckland, age 90, of Gladstone, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, July 12, 2021 at Lakeview Assisted Living in Gladstone.
Lois was born September 21, 1930, in Gladstone, MI, the daughter of Victor and Myrle (Couillard) Soderman.
Lois attended Buckeye School and then graduated from Gladstone High School in 1948. She enjoyed playing in the high school marching band and spending time with her good friends.
In 1946, Lois met the love of her life, Robert Buckland (“Buck”), and on January 22, 1949 they were married at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Escanaba. Together they made their home in Gladstone and raised their six children.

In their retirement years, they travelled all over the country eventually ending up wintering in Biloxi, Mississippi which held a special place in their heart. Buck and Lois always provided a winter getaway for their children to vacation and enjoy with them.

My condolences to the entire Buckland family. I had known this woman my whole life as she was my mom’s great friend. Our families grew up camping, celebrating holiday and just always being like a big family. she always called me Sassy ( no idea why, lol) She was there just about every time I would go home to visit. Her and Buck always came to my moms and we would visit, eat freshly baked bread and just catch up. Those days are gone now as all have passed away, but I can rest assured they are together playing cards and B.S.ing.
I will miss her as I do Buck. The lifelong memories will be forever in my heart and mind.
RIP Lois, hopefully you are no longer in need of a sweater or a jacket!
Love always,
Sassy

Having just learned of this,, we want to extend our sincere condolences at the passing of Lois, as well as Buck a few months ago. We were next door neighbors for over 18 years, having moved to NC shortly before Buck’s passing. We were blessed to be able to go over and enjoy talking to them when we were all out working in our yards. So many nice memories of a special couple that we will always have.
