Lawrence R. Wils, age 90, of 6557 Perkins 30.5 Road, Rapid River, MI passed away Thursday morning, November 25, 2010 at the Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.
Lawrence was born May 15, 1920 in Rapid River, MI the son of Andrew and Lyda (Bennett) Wils. Lawrence was raised in Rapid River where he was a 1938 graduate of Rapid River High School. He was united in marriage to Cleo Langford in 1940 and they made their home in Perkins where they raised their family.

Lawrence owned and operated his own farm with his wife Cleo in Perkins. He also had worked for the Anderson Lumber Company prior to working for Cleveland Cliffs Mining. He retired from Cleveland Cliffs in 1982 after 29 years of employment.

Lawrence was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Perkins and the Rock Senior Center. His hobbies included gardening, hunting, fishing and playing cards. Lawrence will be remembered for his great sense of humor. He will be sadly missed.

Survivors include:

6 sons: Duane (Wendy) Wils of Gladstone; David (Karen) Wils of Escanaba; John (Pamela Voss) Wils of Rapid River; Keith (Ann) Wils of Brampton; Barry Wils of Niagara, WI; Charles Wils of Rapid River

2 daughters: Theresa Adams of Lawrence, MI; Barbara Royer of Portales, New Mexico

2 brothers: Gerald Wils of Stonington; Francis Wils of California

2 sisters: Helen Clauser of Gladstone, MI; Patricia (Thomas) Way of Wells, MI

17 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild

Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins

In addition to his parents, Lawrence was preceded in death by his:

Wife: Cleo in 1992

2 daughters, Ellen and Vina

    The picture of Lawrence and Cleo brought back wonderful memories of our Sunday visits at the farm. We really got into a lot of mischief didn’t we? Uncle Lawrence will be sadly missed, but it must have been a wonderful reunion in Heaven! Cindy
