Josephine “Jo” Ann Hebert, age 84, of 10872 Highway U.S. 2, Rapid River, MI, died Monday January 19, 2004 at Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba where she had been a patient for the past two years. Josephine was born June 3, 1919 in Trentum, PA the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Okular) Zubeck. She was raised in Flint, MI and was a graduate of Flint Northern High School in Flint. She was united in marriage to Urban Hebert on November 7, 1942 in Flint and they relocated to Rapid River in 1946. Together they owned and operated Cy’s Oasis in Ensign for over 25 years. Jo was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Rapid River and she enjoyed socializing with all people.
Her favorite hobby was spending time in her garden working with her flowers and vegetables and was known for having a green thumb. She loved cooking for family and friends and you could stop by the home at anytime and there would always be something cooking.
Survivors include: 6 Sons: Dennis (Joanne) Hebert of Escanaba, Dean “Pat” (Marilyn) Hebert of Waupaca, WI, David “Hap” (Jennifer) Hebert of Rapid River, Dwayne “Skip” (Beth) Hebert of Green Bay, WI, Perry “Mike” (Susan) Hebert of Isabella, MI and Jeffery Hebert of Appleton, WI; 2 Daughters: Phyllis Brittin of Williamstown, N.J, and Peggy “Penny” (Mike) Rian of Rapid River, MI; 1 Sister: Marie Trudeau of Royal Oak, MI; 1 Sister-In-Law: Marie Zubeck of Royal Oak, MI; 20 Grandchildren; and 10 Great Grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and several cousins.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by: Husband: Urban on August 19, 2002; 2 Brothers: Paul and Joseph Zubeck; 1 Son-In-Law: John Brittin in 1987.
Josephine’s family will receive friends on Friday from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Parish prayers will follow at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Deacon Rod Groleau leading the services. Mass of Christian Burial services celebrating the life of Josephine A. Hebert will be held on Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Charles Church in Rapid River with Rev. Jacek Wtyklo and Deacon Bill Green officiating. Luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be in Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
