Joseph J. Jankovic, age 86, of 1617 North Lake Shore Drive, passed away Tuesday evening, June 28, 2011, at his home in Gladstone.
Joe was born January 15, 1925, in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, the son of Ivan and Mary Ann (Medjuran) Jankovic. He was raised in Sharpsburg, PA where he attended the local school system. Following his years in school, Joe enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, eventually re-enlisting in the United States Army, serving until his retirement in 1965, at the rank of Army Master Sergeant. Joe was united in marriage to his loving wife, the former Margaret Ernestine Tardiff, on October 12th, 1944. Upon his retirement, Joe and Margaret returned to Escanaba before moving to Gladstone where Joe has remained for the past 25 years. Margaret preceded Joe in death on February 10th, 1975. Joe was a member of the All Saints Church in Gladstone. In addition, he was a lifelong member of the Escanaba VFW and enjoyed golfing, gardening, spending time with his family and in his younger years, dancing. He will be deeply missed.
