Joseph Bernard Huff, age 84, of 602 Dakota Avenue, Gladstone, MI died Friday morning July 16, 2004 at St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba where he was a patient. Joseph was born March 8, 1920 at home in Gladstone the son of James and Mary Louise (Broeckaert). Joe was raised in Gladstone and was a 1938 graduate of Gladstone High School. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II from 1942 to 1945 where he was stationed in Germany.
Following his duty in the Army he returned to Springfield, Oregon and resided until 1974 when he returned to Gladstone. Joseph was united in marriage to Helen (Maki) Schmidt on December 9, 1978 in Gladstone and they made their residence in Gladstone. Joe worked for Bryer’s Restaurant in Gladstone and he retired in 1983. He served on the Gladstone City Commission from 1980 to 1984. Joe was a member of the Gladstone American Legion Post #71 and the Gladstone Yacht Club. His hobbies included playing cards and traveling.

2 Daughters: Mary Ann Wilk of California, Tina Huff of Portland, Oregon

3 Step Sons:Douglas (Dawn) Schmidt of Rapid River, MI, Allen Schmidt of Ispheming, MI, Bruce Schmidt of Green Bay, WI

1 Step Daughter: Carol Schmidt of Ispheming, MI

1 Sister:Jeanette Fick

4 Grandchildren, 2 Great Grandchildren, 2 Step Grandchildren, 1 Step Great Grandchild.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: 2 Brothers, Paul and Jack, 2 Sisters, Veronica Norkoli and Mary Lou Micheau

Joe’s family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. to 6:45 P.M. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Gladstone American Legion Military rites will follow at 6:45 P.M. Funeral services celebrating the life of Joseph Bernard Huff will follow at 7:00 P.M. at the Skradski Funeral Home with Rev. Emmett Norden officiating. Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone.
