Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
and I, I took the one less traveled by

Dear Janet and family,As I read the memorial today in the paper I thought what a wonderful tribute to your father/husband. Wishing you peace and comfort as you travel on a new path in the circle of life.
    Much love,
    Jeanne and David

I never met John but his obituary certainly attempts to sum up the life of a rare man. I knew two of his daughters and I am certain that his “woodsy ways” and love of nature has been passed on. Please accept my condolences, knowing full well that we all know that words can never take away the sting. People such as John are few and far between, even in the U.P., where we like to think of ourselves as unique. Sorry for your loss.

I’m not sure if I had ever met Jack but know some of his family from hockey. Jack and my Uncle Andy Zuidema fought the first part of their war together and may have known each other. He lived with us in Muskegon and baby sat me at times. Andy was also with the 504th and trained together in North African, jumped over Sicily in one of the first planes to jump, then went to Anzio where he was KIA. It is sad to see the last of these brave soldiers pass on. He was 22 years old.
