John Louis Anderson, age 69, passed away Wednesday evening, February 10, 2016, at his home in Escanaba following a lengthy battle with cancer.
John was born June 16, 1946, in Escanaba, the son of Carl and Ethel (Goodnough) Anderson. He was raised in Escanaba and attended the Escanaba schools. Following school, John enlisted in the United States Army where he served during the Vietnam War from 1963 to 1969. Due to his injuries sustained in Vietnam and at the rank of E-5 Sergeant, John was honorably discharge in 1969. Throughout his enlistment John received his high school GED and medals of commendation which included the Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal with Three Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal and the First Class Unit Citation. Upon returning home to Escanaba, John worked for various employers for many years. On July 31, 1982, John was united in marriage to the former Linda Deneau, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Escanaba, and together the couple made their home and raised their family in Escanaba. John was a lifetime member of the VFW in Escanaba. He was proud to have walked on the tallest stilts in Escanaba and enjoyed cheering for the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers, taking trips to the casino, and spending time with his family.
