John “Pruner” King, age 82, of Flat Rock, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.
He was born on November 8, 1942 to George and Agnes King, the youngest of ten children. He attended the one room schoolhouse in Carroll’s Corners and graduated from Escanaba High School in 1961. In August of 1964, he married Phyllis Bussineau and they raised their three children in the same area where he grew up. He was a pipe fitter by trade. He was also a charter member of the Escanaba Township Fire Department. For many years he volunteered his time with St. Vincent de Paul. John enjoyed hunting, spending time in his garage, playing in the smear league at Holy Family Church, and being at camp with the guys. His grandchildren were the light of his life. He loved to tease, and it would always be followed with a wink.
John was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Lawrence “Jack” (Mary Lou) King, Henry “Hank” (Anna Mae) King, Rose (Chuck) Wheatley, Francis “Curly” (Rosalie) King, Lorraine (John) Froberg, Don King, Richard (Julie) King, Robert “Min” King, and Dorothy (Pat) LaFave; and sisters and brothers-in-law Frances (George) Bougie, Marcella (James) Casey, Margie (John) Casey, Genevieve (Dick) Morris, and Gerald (Scherrie) Bussineau.
John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Phyllis; daughters Denise (Dan) Nicholson and Sara (Jeffrey) Scheuren; son David (Jennifer) King; grandchildren Holly (Dan) Nylund, Jake (Danika) Nicholson, Ryan (Vanessa) King, Kelsey (Ryan) Powell, Alex (Hailey Nelson) King, Curtis (Kaylee Johnson) Raine, and Alice Scheuren; great-grandchildren Harvey, Wilson, Zoey, Zelda, Zayden, and Rhiella; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as his sister-in-law Florence King.
Per John’s wishes, there will be no funeral services held.

I knew john because of my hubby Steve Royer. Steve’s dad ,eugene royer, was best friend with him. John would come in holiday in escanaba, where I worked, and would always joke with me. Steve, my hubby, had so many good stories about john and how he would pick on Steve. He will be missed. And thoughts and prayers for all of you!!
