John Allen Peterson, age 79, of 1326 Michigan Avenue, passed away Friday afternoon, August 17, 2012, at his home in Gladstone, with his loving wife Paulene at his side.

John was born April 8, 1933, in Escanaba, the son of Dorence and Delia (Bloomquist) Peterson. He was raised in Escanaba and was a 1952 graduate of the Escanaba Senior High School. On April 9, 1953, John was drafted into the United States Army, serving during the Korean War Conflict, until his honorable discharge in April of 1955. Throughout his enlistment, John received medals of accommodation which included the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Upon his discharge, John returned to Escanaba where he worked various jobs until gaining employment at Mead Paper Corporation in 1961. On December 8, 1972, John was united in marriage to the former Paulene Majestic and together the couple made their home in Gladstone. John continued working for Mead Paper, as a Lab Tester, until his retirement in December of 1994. John was an ordained minister with a strong Christian faith. John and Paulene are members of the Community Church of Christ in Gladstone.

He enjoyed playing church league dart ball, watching professional sports, especially the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Tigers, going to his grandchildren

    Andrew and I were so blessed to have been able to see, hug, and laugh with Uncle John at our wedding. I have such fond memories of “growing up Majestic” and being able to spend many days with Uncle John, Auntie Paul and our families; whether it was watching (and listening to) the adults play cards, family gatherings, or simple suppers at our house; wonderful, wonderful memories.     Paulene, I am so sorry for your loss. John was a good man and I will always be grateful for both of you, for your friendship and your help to send cards to our troops. John will be missed. Love you, sweet lady. Please call me if you need anything.

    So sorry to hear of John’s passing. We will miss him on Tuesdays… he always picked up our recycling for the Legion. Great man.
