Jill K. Derouin, age 66, of Rapid River, passed away at home on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 with her family by her side.

Jill was born on April 8, 1955, in Escanaba, MI, the daughter of Jack and Mary (Norton) Burroughs. Jill grew up and was a class of 1973 graduate of Gladstone High School. On March 8, 1981, Jill was united in marriage to Ron Derouin and together they spent 40 wonderful years.

Jill was an excellent cook. She also loved to crochet and cross stitch and made many baby blankets in her life. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles. Jill was a great shot at pool and belonged to the Delta County Women’s Pool League as well as the Gladstone Women’s Pool League, but she especially loved her Sunday pool. Jill and Ron enjoyed visiting their daughter Jessica and son-in-law Shane in Australia, and cherished their time together. Jill was like a second mom to many of Jessica’s friends. She was known for her beautiful voice and to hear her sing Janis Joplin was an experience that one wouldn’t soon forget. She also loved spending time at their cottage on the lake for the last 10 years, watching sunsets and enjoying cocktails. She will truly be missed by so many.

Jill is survived by her loving husband Ron Derouin, daughter Jessica Branam, son in law Shane Branam, siblings John (Marsha) Burroughs and Jim (Jan) Burroughs, brothers in law Glen Olsen and Mike Arbor, sisters in law Wanda Frossard and Karen Derouin, brothers in law Don Timler and Mike (Lori Peterson) Derouin, mother in law Mary Ann Derouin, best family friend Dan Johnson, and several nieces, nephews, and good friends.

Jill was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Judy Olsen and Janet Arbor, brother in law Cook Derouin, sister in law Sallie Timler, Aunt Kay Alko, father in law Richard Derouin and best friend Sue Johnson.

A celebration of life honoring Jill is scheduled for Saturday, January 8, 2022 from 1 PM to 5 PM at the Rapid River Pub.

    Jill was one of the first friends I had the honor of meeting when I moved to the UP in 1977. We shared many good times together. She has been in my prayers daily for months. I will continue to keep Ron, Jessica and Shane in my prayers. She was a beautiful person inside and out.

    Dan and I are so sorry for your loss. We’re thinking of you all during this difficult time. Cherish your memories and support each other.

    I will miss Jill’s smile and laughter always a good time. I’m sure she’s singing with the angels. Jill will be missed dearly. Prayers and hugs for all. Sorry I won’t be able to attend but will stop by in the spring.

    I consider myself very fortunate to have known Jill and been on her pool teams, rather than her opponent’s team. She had a heart of gold, quick wit and a smile and voice that won’t be forgotten. Love you girlfriend! Kaye

    Life will not be the same without Jill. I will miss sitting around the table singing, shooting pool, playing games, laughing, and eating your delicious food. You were not just a cousin but a really good friend. I will cherish those memories, and I will miss you dearly! My heart goes out to Ron, Jess & Shane, John & Jim, and all who loved her!

    Growing up and almost living at Sigan’s Jill was always around a great girl. So sorry many prayers.

    Jill worked for my mom at murphs bar in her younger years, she held a very special spot in my moms heart, jill had a gift, you were never a stranger to her, so so sorry she is gone, condolences to her friends and family.

    Rest in Peace Jill – you will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known you.
