Jeanette “Ma” Oman, age 87, of Escanaba passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2020 at the Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba.

She was widowed in 1969 and made the transition from stay-at-home mother to businessperson when she started a successful cleaning service of which she was rightfully proud.

Her latter years were spent at the Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba where she came to be known as “Scooter” for her late night wheelchair trips for a cup of coffee or to distribute some hugs.

Jeanette was a sometimes sassy and always loving person. She was known to many as “Ma” for the friendship and care she gave to the people in her life.

A memorial service will be scheduled later in the year when it is safe to travel and gather.

To Toni and Rick. Sorry for the passing of your mother, Knew her and her family growing up on north 19th street Escanaba. Prays go out to you both .

My ex wife and I got to know ‘ma’ well when she lived in Escanaba, some people even called her rock and roll grandma.’Ma’ wasn’t afraid to say what was on her mind.she was a very nice and caring person and she will be sadly missed, r.i.p ” MA”.

Bill, Rick, Toni & Kate: Sincere sympathy to all of you. Jeanette was Godmother to my Daughter, Susan (May 1977). Before Susan was school age, Jeanette spent many hours babysitting her while I worked nights and went to Bay college during the day. Things I would not have been able to do without her help. She was also my friend. I met her when she welcomed a certain group of young people into her home and life. We weren’t exactly the “popular crowd”. She had an ear for listening and a heart of gold. There were things she tolerated and things she absolutely did not. I believe that is where & when the nickname “Ma Oman” started. Never a bad memory of Ma, all good ones.

    Dear Cousins:

I am so sorry for the loss of Aunt Jeanette. She was a source of joy for my Mom, Georgine, and I have very fond memories of spending time with her. Send it love to all of you, and take comfort in knowing that all of the 8 Deloria kids are together again!

Dear family of Jeannette, I would like to offer my condolences to you all. I have volunteered at Christian Park Center for some years now and have spent time with Jan over at the coffee table or preparing for Mass and then attending Mass mostly, for just a little while. I called her endearingly, Scooter and enjoyed her carefree spirit. May she rest in peace. God bless you all.

Rest in peace Aunt Jeanette…Our condolences Pat, Rick, Toni and Kate on your loss. Love and prayers, Aunt Elaine, LeeAnne, Bruce/Tina and Family, Jeff and Josh, Sandy/Ed and Marshall

Sorry for your lost i had lot of god times with you and your mother as my gram lived across the street John Summer

Bill, Rick, Toni, & Kate we share in your sorrow of Ma’s passing. She always had a high energy music filled love of life that infected everyone around her. Even when she was going to kick someone in the ass she did it with a smile on her face. She was always warm and welcoming with a sassy edge. Sometimes the oldest listening the the band but she would rock out at a concert with the best of them. She had an ageless boundless energy. We think everyone is going to remember her with a smile on her face I know we will.

Ma was one for the most unique woman I have ever meet. I remember her being at all the out door bands in the summer Stormbringer Neptune The Works. She loved music sooooo much. I remember her babysitting me one night at her house and she had the coolest Barbies. I remember her for her big hugs and her kick ass attitude. Another soul like her there will never be! Much love to her family and everyone that she meet! If you have a story about this marvelous lady please share.
