Janice Johnson, age 85, of Kipling, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, January 26, 2025.

Janice was born on May 24, 1939, in Escanaba, the daughter of Harold and Ann (Korenich) Switzer. Janice was raised in Gladstone and graduated from Gladstone High School in 1957. On April 29, 1961 Janice was united in marriage to Newton Johnson and together they shared many wonderful years until his passing in 1991.

Janice enjoyed attending the Christmas specials at the casino, watching the Green Bay Packers, crocheting, watching the birds, and helping make pasties and doing taco prep at the Gladstone American Legion. Janice also enjoyed listening to Polka music. She also loved playing cards; especially cribbage and smear. She was also a member of the Gladstone American Legion’s Women’s Auxiliary. She will be missed by so many.

Janice is survived by her children Stephen Johnson of Gladstone, Scott (Mariah) Johnson of Pawleys Island, South Carolina, and Sandra (Albert) Eilola of Gladstone; grandchildren Joshua (Krystina) Johnson, Stephen Johnson, Christopher (Selena) Johnson, Sara Eilola, and Alex Eilola; great-grandchildren Arlo and Amiya Johnson; as well as siblings Barbara (Louis) Gendron and Duane (Janet) Switzer.

Per her request, no services will be held. A graveside service will take place in the spring and Janice will be laid to rest in the Fernwood Cemetery next to her husband Newton.

    Sorry to hear of Jan’s passing. Was glad I had a nice visit with her in 2023 when my dad and I were in the area. I have great memories of staying at her house, as a child. Prayers to Steve, Scott, Sandy and the rest of the family.

    My deepest sympathy to the family. I met Jan many years ago thru my aunt Phyllis Haglund as they were great friends! Now they both can play smear together in heaven among other things! ❤️ Jan was a special lady and she will be missed. Sending hugs and prayers.
