Janet S. Stiles, age 73, of Gladstone, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, January 11, 2022.

Janet was born January 14, 1948, in Gladstone, the daughter of Arthur and Mary (Snowaert) Nelson. She was raised and graduated from Gladstone High School in 1966. Janet later attended and graduated from Jamestown University of Cosmetology in Escanaba before she met Gary. Janet married Gary Stiles on July 13, 1979 and together they spent 42 wonderful years.

Janet loved tending to her flower garden, cooking, and baking. She also loved spending time with her family and holding her grandbabies. Janet and Gary also enjoyed taking trips together out West to see the national parks. One of her favorite things to do was to help Gary make scenery for the Upper Michigan Central Model RailRoad Club.

Janet is survived by her husband Gary, children Angela (Phillip) Ogren, Julie (Andy Hooper) Stiles, and Lindsey (Sang Ma) Stiles, sister Judy Hamelin, sisters-in-law Dorothy (Jake) Cox and Joyanne (Bill) Toijala, grandchildren Justin Ogren, Jared (Chelsea) Ogren, and Jordan (Katie) Ogren, as well as Seth Rivard and Nick Rivard, great-grandchildren Samuel Ogren, Alayna Ogren, and Brielle Ogren, as well as nieces and nephews.

Janet is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Mary, brother-in-law Duane Hamelin, and parents-in-law Edson and Helen Stiles.

The family would like to extend a thank you to U.P. Home Healthcare and Hospice, Janet’s dear friend Sandy, family, friends, and clergy members for the wonderful care they provided to Janet.

Family will receive friends on Monday, January 17, 2022 from 2 PM to 3 PM at New Life Church in Escanaba. Services honoring Janet will follow at 3 PM with Pastor Robert Derheim officiating. Masks will be required for visitation and services at church. Janet will be laid to rest in Fernwood Cemetery.

    My sincere condolences to the family of Janet Stiles the former Janet Nelson a dear classmate of mine We as the Class of 1966 were sadden to hear of her leaving her earthly home but happy to hear that she is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior and free of pain and suffering. May God give comfort to all her family and friends.
