Janet Elizabeth Lundin

June 26, 1934 – February 28, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Janet Lundin, who passed away peacefully on February 28, 2025, at the age of 90. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.

Janet was the richest lady—rich with the love of her cherished family and friends. She loved without judgment and lived her life in the image of Jesus, treating everyone she met with kindness and compassion. She devoted her life to family, faith, and love, sharing a wonderful life with her husband, Herb Lundin.

She was a 1952 graduate of Gladstone High School and took great pride in her career. From 1972 to 1979, Janet worked as a library aide for Rapid River Public Schools, where she nurtured young minds and instilled in students a lifelong love of reading. She then joined Bay de Noc Community College, where she excelled and was eventually promoted to Learning Resources Center (LRC) Manager—a role she took great pride in. Her promotion was a significant achievement, reflecting her dedication and passion for education. Janet believed deeply in the power of books to change lives, often speaking about how the library was a safe haven for so many students. She tirelessly worked to provide books that would inspire and engage young readers, even purchasing them with her own money to ensure every child had the opportunity to experience the joy of reading. Nothing brought her more happiness than putting a book into a child’s hands.

Her family and friends adored this precious woman. She was always there to listen and guide them, leading by example with love, laughter, and an ability to find humor in any situation. She was always up for a game of cards, marbles, or especially Scrabble, where her sharp mind and playful spirit shined. A gifted writer, Janet had a talent for storytelling, filling her stories with humor and her spunky wit, leaving those around her smiling and inspired.

She is survived by her husband, Herb, and her children, Connie Smith, Glen (Diane) Lundin, and Linda (Jack) Allen. Janet was also a devoted sister to Arlene Bloomquist, Dan Sinclair, William Sinclair, and Mary Ann Vito. She will be deeply missed by her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and all who were blessed to know her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Adam and Alvina Sinclair; her brothers, Neil, Albert, Patrick, and Joel Sinclair; her sister, Margo Viviano; brothers-in-law, Melvin Bloomquist and Mike Vito; and sister-in-law, Eunice Sinclair.

Janet’s legacy is one of love, faith, and kindness. She touched countless lives with her gentle spirit, unwavering generosity, and infectious laughter. Though she will be deeply missed, her love will continue to shine in the hearts of those who knew her.

Family will receive friends on Friday March 7, 2025, from 1:00PM to 3:00PM, at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Mass of Christian Burial will follow visiting hours on Friday, at 4:00PM, at St. Charles Catholic Church in Rapid River, with Rev. Fr. William Ssozi officiating. Janet will be laid to rest in the Rapid River Cemetery in the Spring. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting with arrangements.

Dear Herb, Connie, Buck, Linda, & Sinclair Family,

So sorry for your loss of Janet. She was such a beautiful soul & this obituary is a great testament to her!
I’ve always enjoyed the times that allowed me to see Janet… a dear cousin, who has had the same personality throughout her entire life. Caring, kind, & very witty! She would make every get together that our families shared, even more fun. This photo of her captures her essence! We will surely miss her here on earth, but heaven is a little brighter now.
    Rest in Peace Dear Janet.

    Hugs & Prayers to all.

    Love, Cheryl & Dennis

I will always remember my cousin Janet fondly. She was named after my mom who was cared for by her mother, Aunt Vera, for a time when she was very little. I met Janet and her daughters and a host of other cousins when I was in elementary school, and then saw My wonderful cousins again when I visited after my mom’s death. I’ll always remember Janet and all the rest as the most loving and spontaneous people, always up for celebrations and games. And dancing! I’ll be indebted forever to Janet (and all the rest!) for taking my timid suggestion for spreading my mom’s ashes in Lake Michigan, and making it an instant reality. My cousins wallowed out in the water with me, and I threw the ashes to the wind. There was laughter and tears, and then Janet led us in singing something wonderful while we held hands. That’s how I’ll remember Janet. Just a really special person with love in abundance. I’ll also remember her under the huge apple tree, smiling, feet up. Rest in Peace, dear cousin.

I had the privilege of working with Janet for many years in the library at Bay College. During that time she demonstrated a terrific work ethic, friendship, leadership, kindness and laughter. She volunteered as a religious teacher, and after retiring from Bay volunteered as a library aide for many years at the Rapid River school library. She was truly a joy to know and I’ll miss her.

To Herb & Family. You have my deepest sympathy. I so enjoyed working with Janet at Bay College. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Herb and family, My name is Gail Salminen and I was one of Janet’s breakfast buddies. Janet was one of kindest people I ever met. She was so proud of her family and loved with all of her heart. I was blessed to have called her my friend.

I was so surprised to read this. My condolences go out to the whole family, who sound like a wonderful group of people. I had the pleasure of working with Janet at Bay College, and she was a shining light for all of us. Her wit, ready laugh, and total love of her job and her workmates was apparent in everything she did. When one of her special friends retired, she always made it into a special celebration doing something fun and out of the ordinary. I had the pleasure of playing the retiree in one of the skits that Janet put together for her fun retirement party. I will never forget that. She kept in touch with me over the years through facebook and we tried to make plans to get together for lunch, which I am sorry to say hadn’t happened in awhile. She will be missed by all who knew her. Rest in Peace Janet. I am sure your special is ready for you in heaven with your Lord. We will miss you. With love, Joy Ott
