James Artley

James Joseph “Jim” Artley, age 42, of Gladstone, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday October 30, 2016 in Indianapolis, IN.
Jim was born June 11, 1974 in Escanaba the son of Jerry and Sherry (Wils) Artley. He was raised in Cornell. During his childhood he was involved in the Gladstone Little League programs, Cub Scouts and enjoyed spending time at camp with his dad and older brother Andy who was his best friend. They enjoyed hunting and spending quality time together. Jim was a graduate of Gladstone High School, class of 1992. During his high school years he participated in wrestling and also learned the love of woodworking, making numerous projects for his family.

Following graduation, Jim worked as a machinist and attended Bay College where he received his certificate in welding. Jim continued his education in blue print reading. He was employed at EMP for 8 years where he was a hard working dedicated employee. The family would like to thank EMP for their caring, kindness and support during that difficult time when his employment ended due to his illness.

Jim is the father of Kristen Artley whom he loved dearly and enjoyed time with her. He adored all of his nieces and nephews. Jim had a love of dirt bikes, snowmobiling, and was passionate about old cars. He showed great courage and strength during his battle with Huntington’s Disease.

Daughter: Kristen Marie Artley of Cornell

Brother: David (Danielle) Artley of Escanaba

Sister Angela Artley of Gladstone

Nephews: Devin Sargent, Andrew Sargent, Carson Artley and Asher Sargent

Nieces: Aubree Sargent and Taylor Artley

Several cousins also survive.

His father, Jerry Artley on December 7, 2002, brother Andrew Artley on December 16, 2003, grandparents, Eunice Wils, James Wils, Karen Wils and Harold and Arlene Artley and several cousins preceded Jim in death.

Jim’s family will receive friends on Friday November 4, 2016 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 5:30 pm at the All Saints Catholic Church in Gladstone with Rev. Fr. Jamie Ziminski officiating. Luncheon will follow in the All Saints Church Parish Hall. Burial will be in the Escanaba Twp. Cemetery.
