Irene E. Brunette, age 91, of Gladstone, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba.
Irene was born on March 14, 1933 in Rock, the daughter of John P. And Zella M. (O’Neal) Posenke. Irene attended Rock grade school and later graduated from Escanaba High School in the class of 1951. Irene was united in marriage to Louis M. Brunette on August 18, 1951. She worked with Louis at Louie’s Trailer Sales for most of her working life. In 1985, they moved to Florida where they enjoyed the warm weather, many restaurants, and shopping. They later relocated to Gladstone in 2005. Irene enjoyed traveling, spending time with family, and cooking. She was known for being a spitfire and had a headstrong and no nonsense personality. She will be missed by many.
Irene is survived by her sons David (Bonnie) Brunette and Douglas M. Brunette; grandchildren Douglas, Chris, Daniel, and Khonner Brunette; 3 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Lorraine Posenke; several nieces and nephews; as well as special great niece Michelle Denkins.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband Louis Brunette; parents John and Zella Posenke; brothers Larry, Ormal, and Wallace Posenke; and sisters Esther Dagenais, Joyce Nichol, and Pat Deneau.
Prayers honoring Irene will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024 at 1 PM at the Gardens Of Rest Cemetery Chapel. Entombment will follow immediately after prayers. To offer online condolences, please visit
