Herbert G. Scheriff, age 84, of Gladstone, passed away Friday, January 14, 2022 at Aurora Bay Medical Center in Green Bay.

Herb was born September 7, 1937, the son of Herbert and Theresa (Dura) Scheriff. He graduated from Holy Name class of 1957. While stationed at a Naval Base in Lakehurst, New Jersey he met the love of his life, Joyce Donnelly. The couple was united in marriage on April 28, 1962 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Newark, New Jersey. They relocated to Gladstone in 1962 where they raised their 4 children, Deborah, Tina, Paul and Cris.

Herb worked for Harnischfeger and then went on to work for Mead Paper Mill up until his retirement in 2000. Herb was a family man. He loved spending time at Billy Good Lake which he called, “Almost Heaven.” While at the lake, his favorite thing to do was take his chainsaw on his four-wheeler and cut up fallen trees.
He was an avid NASCAR fan and loved skiing, snowmobiling, four-wheeling and camping.

In addition to his loving wife, Joyce, Herb is survived by:

Tina (Royal) Schram of Bark River, MI
2 Sons: Paul (Kevin Hohlstein) Scheriff of Robbinsdale, MN
Cris (Emily) Scheriff of Escanaba, MI
Sister: Mary Jo Gussert of Greenleaf, WI
Brother: Jerry (Lois) Scheriff of Green Bay, WI
Sister-in-Law: Evelyn (Michael) Quinn of Escanaba, MI
3 Grandchildren: Amber (Ethan) Dombrowski, Sara (Kyle) Rich, and Maxwell (Madison Griffin) Scheriff
2 Great Grandchildren: Leo Dombrowski and Emmett Rich
And numerous Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins

In addition to his Parents, Herb was preceded in death by:
Brother: Anthony Scheriff
Sister: Jeannie Marie Scheriff
Brother-in-law: Donald Gussert
God Daughter: Pam Bowers

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 from 1:30 until 3:30 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Military Honors will be presented at 3:15 PM by the Gladstone American Legion Post 71. Mass of Christin Burial is scheduled for 4:00 PM at All Saints Catholic Church in Gladstone with Rev. Fr. Jamie Ziminski officiating. A luncheon will follow in the parish hall. Herb will be entombed at Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells, MI.
The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Scheriff family.

    It was a sad day when I heard Herb went home to Heaven, I am honored to have known him. He loved his camp on Lake Billy Good but moved out every Labor Day weekend so his daughter Tina and her friends could enjoy a piece of his “Almost Heaven” that is the kind of man he was. He will be missed very much! Love ya Herb.

    Remembering Herb from the skiing years up at the old Gladstone Ski Hill, aka the Gladstone Golf Course. Herb was a fantastic skier, fun guy to ski with and always ready to lend a helping hand. God Bless!

    Herb was my neighbor on Billy Good Lake for many years. We would 4-wheel together and then go back
    to Herb’s cottage and drink the “coldest beer” around. He was a wonderful friend and a real gentleman.
    I will miss him very much.

    Billy Good Lake will not be the same without Herb. We are all SO sad & sorry to hear of Herb’s passing. He was always so enjoyable to have a conversation with & kept us up to date with BGL happenings. Herb was always willing to lend a hand & help us out whenever needed. We loved seeing Herb at 8:30 mass.

    Please know that I hold you all in my heart in prayer. So glad Dave and I stopped by to say hi to him this past Fall. We had a some great moments reminiscing. Quarantine prevented me from attending or I would have been at mass. May God’s peace and comfort enfold you all.
