It was truly a pleasure to know Herb. He and I went to a Monday night Bible study in Escanaba and Herb always seemed to have a big, joyous smile on his face when discussing aspects of our faith in Christ.
We also often picked him up for Sunday church.
One particular aspect of Herb that I really appreciated was his love for the State of Virginia (where my wife & I spend half our year). He was in Virginia for a portion of his life uand spoke so warmly about the great time he spent there, but I think that ESCANABA captivated his heart! This had to be due to the friends he made here, and his enduring love for his “Big Sister” Diana, who he always spoke to me about with marvelous stories of their childhood.
In closing, I treasure the times that I recall sharing our faith. I will miss our friend, Herb!

Herb told me I was his other half in the universe. Despite not seeing each other since 1983 ~ we stayed connected. ✝️
And we never stopped loving each other!

I will truly miss my Uncle Herb. He was such an easy person to talk to and I always looked forward to his visits when I came to town. I honestly didn’t think he would stay, but he ended up loving Escanaba and thrived. That part continues to put a smile on my face. I know our whole family loved having a Duffield in the UP, especially his big sister, my mom. He will be sorely missed, but I’m thankful for all the time I got to spend with him.

My brother Herb, who left us just a little too soon! I know he is with our Lord and Savior, praising and worshipping our Creator! I still remember you playing your guitar and singing Puff the Magic Dragon to me when I was a kid! Sometimes you would let me go to the
shore with you when I was teenager. I remember you broke my finger at the lake! You were the first person there that morning after Ryan was born. You built and gave me my first computer. Lots of memories. Will miss you, but I know that one day we will all be together again.

I’m saddened to learn of Herbs passing. I had the pleasure of meeting Herb a few years ago. My family sends their condolences to the family. Herb will be missed deeply.
