Helen Mae Ness, age 91, of Escanaba passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba.

Helen was born June 1, 1929 in Escanaba, the daughter of George and Rosella (Hirn) Anderson. She graduated from the St. Joseph High School in 1947. Helen was united in marriage to Lester E. Ness Jr. on November 4, 1950. She was a member of the St. Joseph and St. Patrick Parish. She loved spending time with her family and numerous friends. She enjoyed baking, cooking and some of her favorite pastimes were shopping and playing bridge.

Helen is survived by her children, Tom (Joyce) Ness of Gladstone, Kathy (Rich) Kern of Gaylord, MI, Laurie (Tom) Arkens of Neenah, WI and Karen (Bob) Berbohm of Escanaba; grandchildren, Kelsey and Jared Ness, Jen (Clete) Burrows, Brian Arkens, Madalynn (Mike) Haberkorn, Jessica (Mark) Chouinard, Krista (Josh) Pascoe and Kayla (Jason) VanDrese; 15 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester, son, Michael John Ness, grandson, J.W. Pascoe, her parents and brother, Don (Anna Mae) Anderson.

Private funeral services to celebrate the life of Helen will be held at the convenience of the family.

The Ness family would like to thank Dr. Hartman and staff and the St. Francis Hospital staff for their kind and compassionate care.

The family is being assisted by the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba.

    I am so sorry to hear about your mother passing. I really enjoyed working with her. We had so much fun teasing each other, and just talking.

    The only thing I know 100% is I’m going to miss this little ball of sunshine. I didn’t meet her near soon enough in life. I hope she’s in the arms of her loving husband cause it’s where she wanted to be. She so deeply missed him and it’s hard to be without the person you spent a lifetime with. He was a lucky guy. God blessed you with this beautiful lady ❤

    My condolences on the loss of a great lady! I remember how she spoke of her children and grandchildren with such love and how she enjoyed those trips to Florida in winter.

    My deepest sympathy to you all. My prayers are also with you. It’s so hard to loose our parents but we need to remember their advise and guidance. God bless them. We have lost a very special generation.
