Harry “Jim” Jacobsen, age 88, of Escanaba, passed away with his family by his side on Sunday, October 30, 2022 at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba.

Jim was born on December 15, 1933, in Sault Ste Marie, the son of Harry and Ella (Armstrong) Jacobsen. Jim’s family later moved to Dearborn, Michigan where he completed high school. Following high school, Jim enlisted in the United States Marine Corps until he was honorably discharged. On January 18, 1958, Jim was united in marriage to the former Barbara Quinn. Together they shared 64 wonderful years of memories. Jim worked for most of his life as a Tugboat Captain. He worked for both Dunbar and Sullivan as well as Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company. Jim loved his life on the Great Lakes and all the adventures that came with it. He also was a big history buff but especially about the wars. He will be missed by so many.

Jim is survived by his loving wife Barb, children Susan M. (Michael O’Donnell) Way and Robert “Bob” Jacobsen, grandchildren James (Alexis) Way, Justin (Kaitlyn) Way, Jared (Amy) Heiby, and Kyla (Joe) Bizeau, great-grandchildren Lexi Bizeau, Sadie Bizeau, Ella Bizeau, Ethan Heiby, and another on the way, and siblings Donald Jacobsen and Marian Burbo.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Eleanor Fraser and Ruth Jacobsen.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, November 5, 2022 from 10 AM to 11 AM at the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba. Services honoring Jim will follow at 11 AM with President Gregg Cunningham. A luncheon will follow in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints church hall located at 1018 S 13th Street, Escanaba. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Jacobsen family.

    I am so very sorry to learn of his passing! He was such a great neighbor. I will never forget that he came to my Dad’s funeral for me without me even telling him about his passing. It meant so much to me.
