Harold “Chico” O. Chenier, age 86 of Flat Rock, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba.

 

Harold was born August 6, 1937, in Escanaba, MI, son of Oliver and Leda (Beauchamp) Chenier. He graduated from Holy Name High School Class of 1955.

 

He was united in marriage to Sharon Wrubel on December 30, 1961. In 1975, Harold and Sharon founded Chenier’s Greenhouse. They owned and operated for 40 plus years.

 

Harold was a Pipefitter for Local 506 for 50 years. He primarily worked for  Berger and King for most of that time. He led his five sons to become Eagle Scouts and supported Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts throughout the years. Harold also served in the National Guard for 4 years.

 

Harold was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. Harold loved to spend his summers at the cottage with family and in the fall time he could be found at Camp Boom Boom hunting with his sons and grandkids in LaBranche. He had a hand in building both with his sons. Harold especially loved to spend time with his grandchildren and enjoyed traveling.

 

In addition to his loving wife, Sharon, Harold is survived by:

Children: Richard (Michele) Chenier, Roger (Theresa) Chenier, James (Ann) Chenier, John (Yvonne) Chenier, William (Heidi) Chenier and Kimberly (Mike) Johnson.

Siblings: Robert (Ruth) Chenier, Francis (Nancy) Chenier, Marian Chenier, Ann King and Jean Kaminski

16 Grandchildren: Tori, Greg, Zach (Miranda), Brent (Alex), Matthew, Allison (Brandon), Troy, Nick (Abbey), Mike, Holly, Mariah, Kailyn, Hannah, Harrison, Noah and Skyler.

7 Great Grandchildren: Keagan, Hunter, Brinley and Krue, Lyla, Brantley and Cade.

And numerous Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.

 

Harold is preceded in death by his parents

 

Family will receive friends on Thursday, February 15, 2024 from 1:00 until 4:00 PM at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Flat Rock. A mass of Christian burial will follow visiting hours at 4:00 PM with Rev. Fr. Michael Chenier and Rev. Fr. Sebastian Chacko officiating. A luncheon will follow in the parish hall. Harold will be laid to rest in the Escanaba Township Cemetery.

    Thanks for so many memories, camp was always so much fun with the boys (Kim missed those years) I always cherish the memories babysitting the boys (Kim missed them years) and glad that I survived to talk about them ! I remember the day the first Greenhouse arrived on a Hay Wagon and oh so many learning years in the greenhouse planting ! Then when Kim was born after 5 boys, it was like what…a girl finally! She still shines like that beautiful baby girl!

    Duane and I are So Very Sorry to hear about your Loss of Harold We Loved at Hunting season, Harold and the Boys would come to “ Camp Beauchamp” aka “The Apple Pucker Palace” Night before Opening Day of Deer Season , We’d All Gather in the “Pucker Palace, and Visit and Laugh and partake in little “ Apple Pucker “ Was one night We All Looked forward too. The Laughter could be heard a mile away This happened at least for 6 years We alway enjoyed seeing him at camp and at the Green House. We miss those days Very Much. . Thank You Mr. Harold ( and Sons)” for All the Happy Memories We are Very Sorry we did not attend his services, we are in Az. May God Bless and keep Harold in his arms.
