In July of 08, I drove to Escanaba from Denver to vacation with my family. I knew before I left that a friend of mine and Glenn’s was grieving the recent loss of his wife. My plan was to get to town, call and surprise Glenn and visit our friend. I arrived in Esky, saw the news in the paper, and instead I attended Glenn’s funeral. Glenn was always the first one there for me whenever I needed help and I know that he would have gone without so that my daughter and I wouldn’t have to. I was hoping that summer that I maybe could repay some of the kindness he selflessly showed me over the years. My condolences to the Godfrey family and friends on the tragic loss of dear Glenn.

I’m finally able to write a tribute to our dear friend without falling to pieces. I think!

Have we ever or will we ever find a more true, sincere or caring friend? Probably not. Will we ever stop looking for our dear friend to come through the back door with a wheelborrow of wood. No. Will we always think ‘there’s Glennie’ when we hear a 4wheeler come in the yard? Yes. Will we always remember his caring ways. Yes, definately. Will we find comfort in knowing ‘Glen went fishing’? Yes, everyday. Will we know that his soul is safe? Yes, through the grace of God.

Farewell dear friend and yes, I’m good and thanks for asking and caring.

    Dear Grey,

I wanted to write and tell you how sorry I am for your loss. There are never the right words to express how deeply sad I am that you have to endure your loss. Glenn will be truly missed by everyone who knew him no matter where they crossed his path in life

Memories of our times together regardless of where we where usually “Gilly’s Pizza” or what we were doing (tying to kick his butt in pinball) will be forever held dear to me. May your memories bring you comfort in the days ahead.

To all who knew and loved Glenn, my deepest condolences. He was my classmate from the earliest years of our youth and in later years, he always had a smile and a greeting whenever I would see him in Gladstone. I never heard a harsh word from him in all that time. He was a truly nice man who will be missed by all. Rest in peace, my old friend.
