Gertrude Kathleen Hayes, age 98, of 7848 Cole Street, Rapid River, passed away peacefully, Thursday afternoon, January 6, 2011, at the Christian Park Village, in Escanaba.
Gertrude was born August 16, 1912 in Rapid River the daughter of Ernest and Julia (Grandchamp) Laviolette. She was raised in Rapid River where she attended Rapid River Public Schools.
Gertrude was united in marriage on November 9, 1935 to Lawrence F. Hayes at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Rapid River. They made their home in Rapid River where they raised their children. Lawrence preceded her in death on February 1, 1967. Gertrude was a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church.

4 daughters: Mary Ethel (Kirk) Nigro of Ishpeming; Julie Hayes-Moe of Rapid River; Phyllis (Jim) Steele of Sault Ste Marie, MI; Maggie (Bill) Kline of Green Bay, WI
14 grandchildren: Mary Guckenburg, Gregory Hayes, Mary Lynch, Scott and David Kline, Lynn Marie Coyle, Jason, Mike, Josh and Larry Hayes, Maureen (Travis) Cary Michele Larson and Michael Larson, Lauren Bals and Jake Hayes.
