Genevieve I. Morley, age 90, of Gladstone, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 27, 2025 at Christian Park Village in Escanaba.
Genevieve was born on May 12, 1934 in Applegate, Michigan, the daughter of Everett L. and Myrtle F. (Straffon) Lentz. Genevieve graduated from Croswell-Lexington High School in the class of 1952 and later from the Port Huron Business College. On May 8, 1954 she was united in marriage to Willard L. Morley. She worked for Associates Discount Corporation in Port Huron and Saginaw Michigan and also for Frankenmuth Mutual Insurance Company. Together they lived in Frankenmuth until August of 1970 when they moved to Gladstone with their family. She worked at OSF St. Francis Hospital and then Gladstone Area Schools until retiring in 1991. She was a proud member of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel.
She was a devoted member of First Lutheran Church in Gladstone and also was a member of their Faith Circle and Sewing Circle. Additionally, she was a Den mother and Sunday school teacher. Genevieve enjoyed her daily walks and traveling in the motorhome to Alaska and short summer trips with her husband. She and her husband spent the winter months traveling to Treasure Island and Alva, Florida. They also enjoyed taking cruises to Mexico, the Caribbean Islands, the Bahamas, and Hawaii. Most of all, she cherished time spent with her family and loved them dearly.
Genevieve is survived by sons Randy (Mary) Morley of Reese, MI and Gary (Marty) Morley of Centerville, OH; Daughter Lori Morley-Sharon of Gladstone, MI; Grandchildren Justin (Kerstin), Kenton and Calvin (Kelsey) Morley all of Reese, MI, Erin (Ethan) Harris of Springfield, OH and Casey (Ben) Luong of Springboro, OH, Samuel (Sara) Morley of Batavia, IL, and Madelyn (Andy) Donlin of Tampa, FL, Nicole Sharon of Gladstone, Christine Gosse of Gladstone, and Hannah Sharon of Escanaba as well as seven great grandchildren and two more on the way; Daughter in law Betsy Morley of Traverse City, MI; Sisters Norma Porrett of Fort Gratiot, MI, Sharon Maynard of Fort Gratiot, MI, and Diane (Thomas) Basler of Largo, FL; Sister-in-law Karen Lentz of Applegate, MI; Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Genevieve was preceded in death by her beloved husband Willard Morley of Gladstone; parents Everett and Myrtle Lentz of Applegate, MI; son Daniel Morley of Traverse City, MI; sister Connie (James) Kelly O’Conner of Sandusky, MI; and brother Kyle Lentz of Applegate, MI; brothers-in-law Wesley Porrett and David Maynard both of Fort Gratiot, MI.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the First Lutheran Church Sewing Circle.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, May 1, 2025 from 4 PM to 6 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Visitation will resume on Friday, May 2, 2025 from 10 AM to 11 AM at First Lutheran Church in Gladstone. Services honoring Genevieve will begin at 11 AM with Pastor Elisabeth Daniels officiating and a luncheon will follow in the church hall. Genevieve will be laid to rest in Fernwood Cemetery at 1:30 PM on Friday.
