Gale V. DeVere, age 88, of Gladstone passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at Northwoods Place, surrounded by his loving family.

Gale was born February 22, 1928, in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Gerald and Ruby (Bauer) DeVere. He graduated fromSt. Louis Park High School in 1946 and shortly after, enlisted into the United States Army where he served in General MacArthur’s Honor Guard in Tokyo, Japan. After his time spent in the Army, Gale eventually relocated back to Minneapolis, where he met Patricia Raines. They were united in marriage November 5, 1949.

From 1952 to 1971, Gale served in various corporate positions for Red Owel Stores, Inc., living in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Kansas. In 1971, he and Patricia moved their family to Gladstone, MI where they owned Gale’s Red Owl Store until 1979. Gale then began working for Nash Finch Co. in North Carolina, where he retired as Store Development Manager in 1995.

During his years spent in Gladstone, he served on the school board as Trustee and Vice President for 4 years before serving as President and was an active member of All Saints Church.

Gale was a member of the Knights of Columbus and loved sharing his musical talents with various choral groups and church choirs. He enjoyed running during his younger years,golfing and began downhill skiing at age 40. Gale loved bringing his family on vacation to his parents’ lake house in Minnesota. His love for water continued well after his kids were grown. After retirement, Gale and Patricia enjoyed traveling the United States with their camper, exploring God’s creations.

Gale will be remembered for his good conversations, his love of ice cream, and most importantly, for his kindness and compassion shown to others.

Michael J. (Siriwan) DeVere of Duluth, MN
2 Daughters: Dawn R. DeVere of Bark River, MI
Cindy K. (Tom) Wils of Gladstone, MI
10 Grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren, and several Nieces and Nephews and beloved dog, Lexi.

Gale was preceded in death by 2 Sisters and a Brother.

Knights of Columbus rosary recital will be held Monday, November 28, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Visitation for family and friends will follow the rosary until 4:00 PM. Military Honors will begin at 4:00 PM and be presented by the Gladstone American Legion Post 71. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at All Saints Catholic Church at 5:00 PM. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the DeVere family.
