Fred Engdahl, a lifelong resident of Escanaba, passed away Friday September 22, 2023 at OSF St. Francis Hospital.
He was united in marriage on June 18, 1955 to his soul mate Margaret “Margie” Marcoe.
He attended the Escanaba Area Public schools, which he left early to enlist in the Navy. He proudly served for 3 years until he was honorably discharged. After being discharged, he worked for 5 years at Harnischfeger, after which he was hired at the post office as a clerk. After some time he went back to school and received his High School Diploma. Continuing his career, he applied and was hired as a postal inspector out east. Several months later he decided to move back to Escanaba and return locally to the post office. As time went by, he was promoted to post master. He retired at the age of 55. He was very fortunate to have enjoyed 34 years of retirement with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was a very dedicated man to his career, family, and faith.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years Margie (Marcoe) Engdahl, son Reverend Fred Engdahl Jr., Daughter Susan (Engdahl) Closs, and daughter-in-law Debra (Bicknell) Engdahl. 5 grandchildren: Joyce (Darrin) Lewis, Megan Spaulding (Stacy London), Catie (Jeremy) Oakes, Fred “Robby” (Jordan) Engdahl the third, and Timothy Engdahl. 3 great-grandchildren: Mya Lewis, Aiden Oakes, and Rilynn Engdahl, and one more great grandchild on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gustave and Louise (Depotsie) Engdahl, his son Todd Engdahl, Daughter-in-law Gail (Simula) Engdahl, son-in-law Edward Closs, and several brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 27, 2023 from 12:30 pm to 1:45 pm at St. Anne’s Catholic Church. Military honors will be presented by the Delta County Veterans Associating at 1:45 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 2 pm with Rev. Fr. Fran DeGroot officiating.

So sorry to hear of Fred passing away he was one of my fathers best friends at work and away from work. He will be missed.
He was so kind to my mother when my father passed away in 1981. All I can say is I am very Thank full and sad.
