Florence L. Honkonen, age 91, of 217 Dakota Avenue, Gladstone passed away unexpectedly Wednesday May 14, 2014 at the Marquette General Hospital in Marquette.

Florence was born November 14, 1922 in Gladstone, MI the daughter of Louis and Selina (Desotelle) Marohnic. She lived most of her life in the Gladstone and Brampton area. Florence was united in marriage to Sulo Honkonen on March 1, 1941. Sulo preceded her in death on December 12, 1989.

Florence was a cook for Pine Haven Nursing Home for 18 years. She was a former member of the Gladstone American Legion Post #71 Auxiliary. Her hobbies included dancing, especially Polka, and shopping with her lady friends. She also enjoyed house cleaning and gardening.

Brothers: Albert (Carol) Marohnic of Escanaba and John (Jan) Marohnic of Milwaukee, WI.

9 grandchildren: John and Jim Quinn. Scott Honkonen. Bill, Laura, Hank, Gary, and Cheryl (Honkonen) Buccanero, and Jason Lehman.

(16) great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild

Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents and husband Sulo, Florence was preceded in death by her brothers, William, Luke and Charles, sister, Bernice and grandson, Gary Paulin in 1976.

Private visitation and funeral services conducted by Rev. Fr. Jamie Ziminski of the All Saints Catholic Church will be held on Monday May 19, 2014 at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Burial will be in the Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Escanaba and Gladstone are assisting the Honkonen family.

    To Gloria and family,My sincere sympathy on the passing of your mom. I’m sorry I never met her but remember being school mates with Gloria at GHS. Florence’s interests sound
    alot like what my mom liked; dancing, gardening and living in Gladstone. What wonderful memories we have of our moms.
