Everett ” Swede” Godfrey, age 75, of Escanaba passed away on Monday, July 22, 2013 at his home with his family by his side.

Everett was born March 1, 1938 in Gladstone the son of Charles and Flossie (Pelkey) Godfrey. He worked for the Marvic Construction Company, Hanson Canning Company and the Delta Coal and Dock Company, which later became the Upper Lakes Coal Company, retiring in 2008. He was a good family man, loved his dog, Frisky and enjoyed hunting. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion with the Gladstone American Legion Post 71.

Everett is survived by his wife, Beverly of Escanaba; son, David Godfrey of Gladstone; three grandchildren, Ryan (Nikita) LaForest, Andrew LaForest and Ashley (Dan) Bourdeau; three great grandchildren, Nickolas Reed, Jacob Paul Bourdeau and Laylianna Rose LaForest; a brother, Lyle (Carol) Godfrey of Brampton; a sister, Evelyn (Mike) Birkholz of Gladstone and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Paul Douglas Godfrey, his parents, brothers, Ralph, Art, Merlan, Walter, Harrison, Robert, William, Ted, Irving, and Gerald, sisters, Martha Eagle, Dorothy Micheau and Alice Micheau.

According to family wishes, Everett will be cremated and memorial services will be held at the convienence of the family. He will be laid to rest in the Fernwood Cemetery.
