Escanaba, MIEugene “Gene” A. Palequin, age 79, passed away peacefully Monday evening, January 23, 2017, at his home in Escanaba.

Gene was born in Gwinn, on June 3, 1937, the son of John and Selina (Mallette) Palequin. He was raised in Escanaba and attended the Escanaba schools. On November 3, 1956, Gene was united in marriage to the former Marie Evelyn LeClaire, at Sacred Heart Church in Schaffer, and together the couple made their home and raised their family in Escanaba. Gene served in the United States Army National Guard. He worked for Guindon Moving Company for many years, and at Coyne Chevrolet in Escanaba for 20 years. While at Coyne, Gene worked in the service garage and also provided towing services to the local community and surrounding areas. He later owned and operated his own towing company, “Gene’s Towing”, until his retirement in 1998. Gene served our local community successfully for many years. He was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Escanaba and volunteered in several capacities at the church. Gene was a hardworking, kind and dedicated family man and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Sons: John (Sherry) Palequin of Escanaba, MI
Dale (Sherri) Palequin of Las Vegas, NV
Brother: Richard Palequin of Escanaba, MI
Sister: Theresa (Jerry) Kabel of Columbus, OH
Grandchildren: Stephanie (Mike), Stephen (Jess), Andrew (Dianna), Cory, Ashley,
Jacob and Justin
Great Grandchildren: Joel, Liam, Hadley and Oliver Also surviving are many nieces, nephew, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, John and Selina, and his loving wife Marie, Gene was preceded in death by:
Brothers: Edward and Joseph Palequin and Omer Miron

Gene’s family will receive friends on Friday, from 3:00PM to 5:00PM, at the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba. Mass of Christian Burial will follow visiting hours, at 5:30PM on Friday, at St. Anne Catholic Church in Escanaba, with Rev. Fr. Fran DeGroot officiating. Luncheon will follow mass in the St. Anne Parish Hall. Gene will be laid to rest at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in the spring. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting with arrangements.
