Eugene E. Timler

Resided in Escanaba, MI
Died December 2, 2019

Eugene E. Timler, age 91, of Gladstone, passed away December 2, 2019, at Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba, where he had resided for the past two months. Prior to living at Bishop Noa Home, Gene resided for the past ten years at Lakeview Assisted Living in Gladstone.

Gene was born on October 25, 1928, in Perkins, the son of Leo and Helen (Zablocki) Timler. They moved to Gladstone in the early thirties, living above the original Gladstone General Store at Delta Avenue and Third Street.

Gene was a graduate of Gladstone High School, class of 1947. He played football and was captain of the Braves his senior year. They were the only undefeated football team that year in the Upper Peninsula. He was proud of that accomplishment.

Following his enlistment in the United States Coast Guard, Gene went to work on the Soo Line Railroad, working in Fond Du Lac, WI for a short time, before spending the remainder of his working years at the Round House in Gladstone.

Gene enjoyed playing smear for the All Saints Smear League. He was a typical Upper Peninsula guy who enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as watching the Green Bay Packers on TV. Although Gene enjoyed the Packers, he was a fan of most football teams.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Helen:
Brothers: Donald, Ronald and Bernard Timler
Brothers in law: Paul Utley and Joseph Corbiel
Sister in law: Mary Jean Timler

Gene is survived by:
Sisters: Loretta Utley of Indianapolis, Indiana
Beverly Corbiel of Clarkston, Michigan
Aunt: Irene Marion of Green Bay, Wisconsin
He is further survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gene’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Gene’s good friend and neighbor, Jim Nelson, for his companionship and care for Gene throughout the years.

Mass of Christian Burial is tentatively scheduled for spring time at All Saints Church in Gladstone. Gene will be laid to rest next to his parents in the Fernwood Cemetery. Family appreciates the care shown for Gene and those friends who visited and came to play cards with him over the years. May God bless all of you for these spiritual acts of kindness. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting with arrangements. Memorial contributions in Gene’s name may be directed to All Saints Church in Gladstone.
