Emma A. Smith, age 91, of 4485 CR 416 20th Road, Gladstone, MI (Flat Rock) died Sunday morning April 10, 2005 at St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba where she was a patient for four days. She was a resident of Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers, MI for the past 16 months.
Emma was born February 19, 1914 in Gladstone the daughter of John and Klementine (Antonicie) Jardis and was a lifelong resident of the Gladstone (Flat Rock) area. She graduated from Gladstone High School. Emma married John C. Smith on November 28, 1939 at All Saints Church in Gladstone.
During their married life they owned and operated a dairy farm in Flat Rock. Emma enjoyed working in her flower garden and was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She very much enjoyed being with family, especially spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include:
Two sons: William (Virginia) Smith of Gladstone; Thomas (Wendy) Smith of East Tawas, MI
One Daughter: Janice (William) Plouff of Gladstone
10 Grandchildren: Brian (Amber), Robert, Glen (Amy) Smith, Jennifer (Tim) Taylor, Peter, Christopher (Janis) and Andrew Plouff, Marjorie (Vince) Jeever, Jordan and Chelsea Smith and eight great grandchildren.
Sisters: Tillie (Harvey) St. John of Spalding and Dorothy (Andrew) Blanda of St. Paul, MN
Brother: William (Helen) Jardis of Chicago, IL
Sister in law: Gloria (John) Jardis of Gladstone
Many nieces and nephews
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Emil, Albert and Stanley Jardis, and two sisters, Mary (Leo) Waeghe and Amelia (Arnold) Carlson.
Visitation will be held Wednesday April 13, at Holy Family Church in Flat Rock from 3:00 P.M. to 5:30 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Emma A. Smith will follow at 6:00 P.M. at Holy Family Church with Rev. Fr. Frank Lenz officiating. Luncheon will be served in the parish hall following the services. Burial will be in Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the Holy Family Church Building Fund or to Holy Name Grade School. Envelopes will be available at the church or at the Skradski Family Funeral Homes.

P.S. I have some wonderful memories of providing care for your parents. I loved picking Emma beautiful flowers from her garden to put on the table with her morning breakfast!
