Ellen “Babe” M. Stewart, age 87, of Marquette, formerly of Gladstone, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 18, 2023 at Eastwood Nursing Home in Negaunee.

 

Ellen was born on February 29, 1936 in Gladstone. She was raised in Gladstone as well. She had many jobs in her lifetime. Those included working at Sloan’s Nursing Home, Hanson’s Canning Company, and cleaning for various businesses. She had a great work ethic.

 

Ellen is survived by her siblings Betty Brunette and Jack (Marcy) Deneau; sister-in-law Mary Deneau; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Vivian and Ernest, as well as brothers James Stewart and Richard Deneau, brother-in-law Leo Brunette, and grandparents James and Lena Ketchum.

 

 Family will receive friends on Friday, December 22, 2023 from 2 PM to 4 PM at Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Services honoring Babe will begin at 4 PM with Rev. Fr. Jamie Ziminski officiating. Babe will be laid to rest in Fernwood Cemetery.

    Babe worked for my mom at Sloan’s Nursing Home. I have many fond memories of following Babe around. Babe was not only a hard worker but also had the patience of a saint and was truly a kind hearted soul.

    Jack, Marcy & family! So sorry to hear about Babe! You all gave her such a good life & now she’s reunited with all her other loved ones! You all are in my thoughts & prayers!

    When I was in high school, I knew Babe. She went out of her way to be kind to me. She was quiet, thoughtful and generous. I am very sorry to read of her death and I send sincere condolences to her family. I will never forget how nice she was to me.

    I am sorry to hear of Babe’s passing, I have fond memories of her visits with my Aunt Betty and Grandma Eva as a child when we would go to my Aunt Betty’s home. My condolences and prayers.
