Gladstone – Elaine Alice Oman, 82, 217 Dakota Ave, Gladstone died Wednesday November 11, 2020 at home surrounded by her loving family, after an undiagnosed lengthy illness.

She was born November 19, 1937 in Beaver (Perkins) Michigan, the daughter of Joseph Lachance and the former Victorine Labresh. She was the 13th of 14 children. She was raised in Little Lake and Escanaba. She attended Escanaba High School with the class of 1955.
On October 23, 1954 she married Stephen Bruce Oman at St Anne’s Church in Escanaba. He preceded her in death in 2010.

See was a stay at home mom, a great cook and baker and kept a very welcoming home. After her children grew up she took on some part time employment but her main job was to make people happy. She was easy to converse with and anyone who talked with her was bound to feel great afterward. She was special because her unconditional love extended beyond her immediate family. Family was very important to her so she has given and received much love.

Before her eyes failed her she enjoyed crafting, reading and was a wizard with the bingo dauber. After her eyes failed her she enjoyed listening to books on tape, talking on the phone and spoiling her grandchildren. She was a person of faith and ready to meet Jesus.
Survivors include two daughters, Lee Anne Oman, Escanaba and Sandra Oman (Ed Wilson), Gladstone; two sons, Bruce Oman (Tina), Menominee MI, Jeff Oman, Gladstone. She is further survived by seven grandchildren; Laura St Louis (Paul), Emily Nyquist (Loren), Josh Oman, Stephen Oman, Jennifer (Brian) Miller, Morgan Wilson and Marshall Wilson; two great grandchildren Rosemary Elaine St. Louis and Jimmy St Louis; two sisters, Delphine Tucker and Delores Rife (Jim Wasurick); one brother Zeph Lachance. Also surviving are brothers and sisters in-law: Elaine Oman, Lois (Dwayne) Bero, Don Dahlke, Maxine Erickson and Eleanor Westman.
As you would expect she is also survived by a great number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her grandson Jayme Oman, brothers; David (Lempi) Lachance, Delore (Bertha) Lachance, Albert Lachance, Elmer Lachance, Tony (Eleanor) Lachance, Wilfred “Fritz” Lachance; sisters Emma (Charlie) Delmont, Helen Lachance, Marie (Russell) Westman, Bertha Lachance, Also preceding her in death are brothers and sisters in-law ; Clayton Tucker, Neal Rife , Marlene Lachance, Wilbur “Billy” (Jeanette) Oman, Shirley Dahlke and Judy (George) Rogers.

The family would like to thank UP Health Systems Hospice for their rapid response and compassionate care. The family would also like to thank the emergency room staff at St. Francis Hospital.

Friends may call at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone on Thursday, November 19, 2020 with the holy rosary being recited at 12:45 PM with visitation to follow from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM. Mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 3:30 PM at All Saints Church in Gladstone with Rev. Fr. Jamie Ziminski officiating. Burial will be in the Rapid River Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Vincent de Paul or Salvation Army.

Because of current circumstances the family realizes some may not be able to attend and want to assure them that we understand and hope that sometime in the future we can get together to celebrate mom’s life in an atmosphere of fellowship that she so much enjoyed.

    My dad Zeph LaChance would take our family every Summer to the UP to visit his sister Elaine Oman, my Auntie in Gladstone MI. It was always the highlight to my Summer. I loved to visit Auntie Elaine and Uncle Steve and my cousins. I enjoyed being in her presence. I loved it when she would hug me, she often would do it I knew she loved me! She was sweet that way! She was a really good cook and bake a lot, it made our time so special! My dad LOVED his sister Elaine and would talk about her often to me. He would affectionately call her SISTER and she’d call him BROTHER. I saw they loved each other very much it is something her brothers and sisters showed each other it was evident to everyone. She is going to be greatly missed my her family and friends . She truly was an honorable woman. One word could describe Auntie Elaine SWEET, KIND, LOVING, try picking one

    So sorry for your loss….always difficult to lose a loved one. Know that your friends/coworkers at the airport extend sympathy and prayers to you and your family. Hugs

    I loved you Aunt Elaine so much! You were second only to my own Grandmother – your sister, Emma. You were always so happy to see me and anyone else you came in contact with – no matter what was happening in your life you were upbeat and positive. You were loved and will be missed.     Jeff and family I am so sorry for your loss but I know you will be with her and your loved ones someday. I remember your mom from when we were kids. She had such a loving soul. Lean on the Lord and imagine her face to face with our Lord. Much love hugs and prayers for all of you.

    Auntie Elaine loved people, loved children, loved her family and loved Jesus.
    Auntie always made you feel loved and special, greeting you with a big hug and holding your hand while she talked with you giving you her full attention.
    She loved us, our spouses, our children, and our grandchildren taking an active interest in us all.
    She will be greatly missed until we meet again.

    The obituary describes Elaine so well. Both of your parents always welcomed me into their home, while growing up as your neighbor. As an adult, she was still very welcoming & happy to see me. A Lot of good memories!

    I met Elaine through the Talking Book program out of Marquette. She’d call in her requests and we’d have a nice visit. She loved historical fiction, especially stories about pioneer women. I visited her twice- once when she needed a new machine and another time when she was out of books! What a sweet, wonderful woman. Your family was certainly blessed to have such a good mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. She made the world a better place.

    My condolences to the family. I grew up with all you kids. Your parents were always nice and welcoming. Shes still smiling and happy . Take care and love and hug each other, and remember all the happy times together with your parents.Its hard, I just lost my dad in April and my mother 20 yrs ago. Its not the same without them but the memories help to keep them alive in our hearts. Take care and prayers and hugs to you all.

    Our sympathy to all you kids in the loss of your mom. I didn’t know her well but loved how happy she always was. Please know we’re keeping all of you in our prayers.

    Auntie Elaine you will be truly missed. I will miss our visits. The many years of visiting every summer n throughout the years has many lasting memories. You will never be forgotten. I know how hard it is on the family since losing my own Mother in April of this year. Cherish all the memories and talk about them. It will take time.
