As a child, I fondly remember visiting Rock and eagerly awaiting many visits to the Maki farm! Eino taught my sister, Yolonda, and I all about milking cows (by hand), bailing hay out in the fields, making forts out of that same hay in their barn, riding their pony, petting goats, balancing across that narrow 2×4 when the bridge was out, and yes, even stepping in cow pies! Eino’s farm breathed Life and excitement!

Today, as an adult, I have taken a small piece of Eino’s farm inside me and raise chickens. With the Maki wisdom and support, my hens are flourishing! And in return, am teaching our own children the art of farming.

Trips to Rock will never be the same. But Eino’s sense of humor, sparkling eyes and warm smile will always have a place in my heart. God Bless him, Shirley, Myron, Joan, and family.
