Eileen Hirn Johnson, age 96, of Escanaba passed away Wednesday afternoon, October 10, 2012 with her family at her side at the Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba.

Eileen was born January 16, 1916, in Escanaba, the daughter of George and Anna (Brown) Hirn. She was the oldest of three children. She attended St. Joseph School and upon her graduation was married to Stanley C. Johnson. In her younger years she enjoyed visiting with her aunts, uncles, cousins and friends at the De Loughary Farm in Eustice where they would play Irish music and dance. She also enjoyed skiing, bowling, golfing and playing cards. Summers were spent at the family cottage on M35 in Ford River, surrounded by family and friends. Fall was spent on weekends at the Hirn hunting camp in Northland.

Eileen began her working career with the City of Escanaba, for nine years, before moving to Denver, Colorado in 1953. She worked as a medical assistant for 10 years at the Denver Medical Building. Returning to the midwest in 1963, she was on the staff of St. Vincent’s Hospital in Green Bay, Wisconsin. In 1964, due to her father’s death, she returned to Escanaba and recieved employment with Mead Paper.
After her retirement in 1979 she spent her winters in Fort Myers, Florida with her companion and dear friend, Oliver Felton of Escanaba and Fort Myers. They enjoyed the warm weather, playing golf, tennis, swimming and having a good time with their friends.

Eileen is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Ann (Phil) Creten of Ford River; three grandchildren, Mark Creten of Ford River, Cindy (Steve) Fisher of Escanaba and Tracy (Steve) Erickson of Escanaba; five great grandchildren, Philip and Garrick Fisher, both of Green Bay, WI, Mallery Fisher of Escanaba, Christa Erickson of Escanaba and Tom Erickson of Alma, MI.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Charles Hirn, killed in Korea and Harold (Olga) Hirn of Gulfport, Mississippi and two infant children, Stanley and Anna Mary Johnson, both at birth.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, October 16 at 5:30 PM at the St. Joseph and St. Patrick Parish in Escanaba with Rev. Fr. Eric Olson officiating. A luncheon will be served immediately following services in the church fellowship hall. Eileen will be laid to rest in the Lakeview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Eileen requested that donations be directed to the Blue Army Radio Rosary or the Salvation Army Food Bank.

The Johnson family is being assisted by the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba.

    Marilyn,My sympathy to you and your family on Eileen’s passing. Eileen and I worked together at Mead and we became good friends. Kept in touch after we retired and would see her frequently when I lived in Escanaba. I now live in Grand Rapids. Also knew your son Mark from working at Mead. She was a wonderful person.

    Dear Marilyn, I was so sad to hear of Eileen’s passing. I will miss her. When I first came to Bishop Noa Home, I was struck by the stately appearing pretty lady sitting in her wheel chair in the front row. Sitting with you and Eileen for coffee and sing-a-longwere special joyful times for me. I will always remember Eileen and your devoted attendance. God Bless you and your family. Your friend.
