Edythe Elizabeth Brisson

Resided in Rapid River, MI
Died October 12, 2020

Edythe (Boots) Elizabeth Brisson was born May 6, 1926 in Rapid River, MI to Albert and Beda Proehl. She was raised on a dairy farm, enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, sports, crocheting, crossword puzzles, playing cribbage and singing. Edythe graduated from Rapid River High School and attended Northern Michigan University where she attained a teaching certificate. After teaching one year at Traunik elementary school, she married Victor (Buzz) Brisson of Limestone Michigan. They had eight children; Margaret (Allen) Caswell, David (Linda) Brisson, Nancy (Daniel) Sluys, Carol Brandon, James Brisson, Anne (Michael) Rasmussen, George (Joan) Brisson, and Mary Noga. Diane Corbet and Caren West were also like her own daughters.

She was a lifelong member of St. Martin’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rapid River where she enjoyed her church family, singing in the choir and praising Jesus. Edythe believed that we are saved by His grace, not by works and lived her life as a shining example of that belief. Everyone she touched knew the feeling of unconditional love and if you were on her card list you were extra blessed.

Edythe was preceded in death by her husband Buzz, her daughter Margaret and her siblings Arnold, Berthola, and Louisa.

She is survived by her adopted sister Martha Brant, seven children, two adopted children (Diane and Caren), twenty six grandchildren, forty great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.

We love you Grandma, you loved us more. God rest your soul. “Well done my good and faithful servant”, Mathew 25 v 21.

Edythe’s family will receive friends on Saturday, October 17, 2020 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone, with funeral services to follow officiated by Pastor Phil Paustian. The wearing of an appropriate mask and practicing of social distancing is requested. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Martin Lutheran Church of Rapid River. Edythe will be laid to rest in the Limestone Township Cemetery.

Our deepest sympathies to all the family. Your mom treated all of us Limestone kids like we were her own. She was the most loving Lady I had the privilege to know, and grow up by. She will be missed by many. We love you all.

Your Mom was so loved by many in the community. She worked at the school for many years and was exceptional with children. She attended all Children’s sporting events for most of her years as her health allowed. Jim and I have so much admiration and respect for her. Heaven definitely received an Angel when she went home. We are so sorry for your loss and grief you are going through.

Edythe was a kind, including, gentle lady who always made me feel special. It was a gift she gave to those around her. Thinking of your family ….may we be so nurturing and thoughtful.
