Dorothy J. (Dottie) Knox 79 of 2701 1st Ave. South Escanaba, died on Friday July 9,2004 at St. Francis Hospital. She was born January 5,1925 in Traverse City, Michigan the daughter of Roy and Edith (Mann) Chance and had moved to Ashland, Ohio at the age of 21. There she worked for the North Star Telephone Co. as an operator and Satellite Manager. She also worked for the Ashland Ohio Public Schools.
Dorothy met and married Richard L. Knox on September 16,1950. Together they moved to Delta County in 1991. She enjoyed singing for the local nursing homes and was a member of the Ford River Community Chapel.
She leaves to survive:
2 sons: Douglas Knox of Ashland, Ohio, Mark (Carolyn) Knox of Englewood, Florida
1 daughter: Beth Alison (Ed) Chapman of Columbus, Ohio
1 brother: Ray (Mariel) Chance of Ann Arbor, Michigan
3 sisters: Edith Lucille (Perry) McPherson of Jackson, Michigan, Ada Rosalie (George) Happy of Traverse City, Michigan, Joyce (Jerome) Burrows of Williamsburg, Michigan
5 Grandchildren, many Nieces & Nephews
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 52 years Richard on November 18,2002.
2 brothers: Paul and William Chance and 1 sister:Virginia Devendorf Carson.
A Memorial service celebrating the life of Dorothy J. Knox will be held on Thursday, July 22nd at the Ford River Community Chapel (3103 M-35 Ford River,Mich) at 11:00 AM with Pastor Lee MacInnes officiating. A lunch will follow the service in the church hall.
A Memorial interment service will be held at the Pumphouse Ministries in Ashland, Ohio at the convience of the family.

Dottie was a wonderful, Christian friend. We shall always treasure the many hours we spent with her and Dick discussing the scriptures. We praise the Lord she is home with her savior.

I read of Dorothy’s passing yesterday and I wanted to say that I’m sorry for your loss. She was a really fine lady who always seem to have a smile on her face. She always treated me really nice. The two things that I remember about Dorothy is that she liked to play solitaire and she made great macaroni and cheese……yummy! When I read her obituary, I didn’t realize Dick had passed away also. Both your parents were really good people. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
