Doris M. Hawkins, age 86, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 27, 2024 at her home with her family by her side.
Doris was born on April 19, 1938, in (Masonville Township) Rapid River, the daughter of Frank and Violet (Deneau) Belongia.
Doris attended school in Rapid River, Michigan. Later on, she met her husband, Ron, and married him in 1961. Doris loved traveling and camping with her family. She loved her crafts, puzzles, baking her meat pies and making freezer jam. One of her favorite things to do was sharing these experiences with her Grandchildren especially baking. She was an active member of Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes and loved working with girls in the troop that she helped out with. Her favorite part of helping out with Girl Scouts was attending Disney on Ice. She was blessed to welcome 5 great grandchildren.
After the death of her husband, she met Joe and remarried while continuing to share her passion of traveling and camping.
Doris is survived by her children Debra (Tim) Hirn, Susan (Ricky) Stribling, and Beverly (Darren) Foulker; brother Mike Belongia; sisters Deloris (Mike) Mattila and Barbara Jean (Roger)Kramer; grandchildren Chistopher (Amanda) Hawkins, Matt Hawkins, Ashlie Foulker, Marcus Stribling, Alisha Hirn, Delia Hirn, Cora Hirn, Adaline Hirn, Elizabeth Hirn and Samuel Hirn; great-grandchildren Rihanna Stribling, Harmony Hawkins, Zaira Dannenberg, Giavanna Hawkins and Elijah Hawkins; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; first husband Ronald F. Hawkins; second husband Kenneth “Joe” Starnes; grandson Ricky D. Stribling III; sister Betty Kibben; and brothers Herbert, Henry, and Leonard Belongia.
Family will receive friends from 11 AM to 1 PM on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services honoring Doris will begin at 1 PM with Rev. Fr. Brandon Yanni officiating. Doris will be laid to rest in the Rapid River Cemetery.
