Donna Lee (Hendricks) Anderson, age 76, of Escanaba, passed away late Monday evening, September 15, 2014, at Marquette General Hospital, in Marquette, MI.

She was born in Brookings, S.D. to J. Lee and Bernice Irene (Pryor) Hendricks, their only child, on January 23, 1938. Donna had been a teacher, for 38 years, having taught in Grandville, Marquette and Escanaba. Her last 19 years was as teacher/counselor at the J.R. Fitzharris High School in Gladstone. Her education included graduation from Escanaba High School, in 1956, studies at Carroll College where she was affiliated with Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, Western Michigan University and Bay College. She received her B.A. degree in Elementary Education from Northern Michigan University where she was a member of Delta Sigma Nu sorority. She later received certification in Secondary Ed and Remedial Reading certification with emphasis on dyslexia. Donna held a Masters degree in counseling. She was active in community volunteer work serving as Community Coalition chairperson, Bay Campus Ministry Administrative Bd., Central United Methodist Church Administrative
Council, ISD Teen Parenting Advisory Board, Fitzharris School Advisory Bd., Eastern Upper Peninsula Substance Abuse Advisory Council, Drug Free Schools Advisory Bd., Crisis Response counselor, Michigan Alternative Education Executive Bd., receiving the Governor

    Deepest condolences to the Anderson family. Donna was loved by so so many ppl, and will be deeply missed, and forever remembered fondly. She touched the lives of so many of her students. She gave of herself so selflessly. From a place of genuine concern and love. Best teacher ever. She was my mentor, and at times my saviour, and always my friend. I will miss her profoundly. I love you Donna.

    I am deeply saddened to hear Donna has passed away, my deepest condolences to the Anderson family. I’ll always remember her as being the most kind-hearted, respected, loving person, teacher, and mentor I’ve known through my days at school, class of ’84. I’ll always have a special place in my heart for Donna, and the memories I will cherish forever.     I am so sorry to hear of Donna’s passing . She and I started college together at Carroll as roommates and went through some good times and sad times. It was so good to have each other in our first adventure living away from home. My deepest sympathy to the family.
