Donald Richard Breitzman, age 79, of Gladstone passed away Thursday morning, August 21, 2014 at the Pine Haven Rest Home in Gladstone.
Donald was born June 20, 1935 in Escanaba, the son of John and Agnes (Nye) Breitzman. He graduated from the Escanaba High School in 1953. Upon graduation Donald began serving a lengthy military career that included the United States Air Force, Army, Navy and National Guard. He was stationed in Antarctica, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Hungary, Germany, Alaska and Vietnam. Donald returned following his military career and remained a lifelong resident of the Bay View area. He was a member of the American Legion, a nature lover, enjoyed reading Westerns, politics, watching Fox News, traveling the U.P. with his niece, Connie and was a avid Green Bay Packer fan.
Donald is survived by his brother, Admer (Marion) Breitzman of Arizona; sisters-in-law, Helen and Sharon Breitzman, both of Gladstone and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Fred, Harold, Roy, Arnold and Harlan.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 23 from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Military Rites will be conducted at 2:45 PM by the Gladstone American Legion August Mattson Post 71. Memorial services will be at 3:00 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Elizabeth Hill officiating. Donald will be laid to rest in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
Memorial contribuions may be directed to the Gladstone and Escanaba Libraries, to be used for the purchasing of Western large print books.
