Donald Louis Reiffers, age 82, of 621 North 18th Street, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, June 14, 2011, at the Christian Park Village in Escanaba.
Don was born April 25, 1929, in Escanaba, the son of John Peter and Anna Marie Reiffers. Don was raised in Escanaba and was a 1947 graduate of the Escanaba Senior High School. In February of 1951, Don was drafted into the United States Army where he served, as a small arms repairman, during the Korean War. Throughout his Army enlistment, Don received medals of accommodation which included the Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars and the United Nations Service Medal. Don served in the Army for several years before enlisting in the United States Air force where he served until his honorable discharge in May of 1961. On October 8, 1962, Don was united in marriage to the former Marie M. Bowers and together the couple made their home and raised their son in Plymouth, MI. Don was employed for the Ford Motor Company until his retirement in 1990. Don and Marie then relocated to Escanaba where they resided since. Marie preceded Don in death on May 8, 1997. Don enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include son Donald S. (Cindy) Reiffers of Allendale, MI., brother Steve Reiffers of Escanaba, MI. and sister: Lillian Way of Escanaba, MI. Grandchildren Stephen, Thomas, Johnathon, Kristina (John) and Trisha and great grandson Samuel.

Also listed among the surviving family are several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, John Peter and Anna Marie, loving wife Marie, sisters Elizabeth, Kathryn and Marie and brother John.
