Diane Victoria Zellar, age 62, of Escanaba passed away at home on Saturday, December 11, 2021.

Diane was born May 28, 1959 in Brookline, Massachusetts, the daughter of Joseph and Philnena (Penna) Brogna. She was united in marriage to Douglas J. Zellar on May 24, 1980 . Diane moved to the Escanaba area in 1984 with her husband and small family. The couple opened Spucky’s Steak Sandwiches, which was located at 423 Ludington Street. She was an active Altrusan for 15 years and a Den Mother in Cub Scouts for 12 years. She served on various PTO Boards and was a devout member of her church.

Diane is survived by her sons, Doug (Ranae) Zellar, David (Jennifer) Zellar and Daniel (Kelly) Zellar; grandchidlren, Zachary, Zaydan and Benjamin Zellar and her best friend Jellybean.

She was preceded in death by her Parents and husband, Douglas Zellar

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 17 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services will be held at 5:00 PM. A luncheon will follow at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Escanaba. Diane will be laid to rest in the West Lakefield Cemetery in McMillian, MI in the spring.

    Such a beautiful lady taken from us too soon. She is now at peace. Sending peace and prayers to her wonderful sons and grandkids.

    She always took care of everyone and made everyone feel loved. She was like an Aunt to me. We’ll all miss you so much❤️ Sending prayers to the family.

    I met Diane Freshman year at Pope John XXIII HS in 1973. We became the best of Friends. We got in so much trouble together. In 1977 we both selected Collages in Utah and spent many a night in each other’s dorms.
    After a while came marriage and our kids
    Diane and Doug decided they would move to Michigan. The distance contributed to us not seeing each other for years.
    Even though we didn’t see each other I always held her in my heart. May God keep you safe, until we meet again.

    I am so deeply saddened to find out this news ,when you first told me about this horrible diagnosis , you said your goodbyes then
    We had spoken not as much as I wished but we were in touch,
    You will be missed , love you

    I worked with Dee at several trade shows when we both worked for GES. I will never forget the day she got me on a roller coaster in Fla. by saying it wasn’t a roller coaster! So much fun that day after work. I am so sad she suffered for so long. Rest In Peace dear Dee.

    John & I had fun whenever we went to Spucky’s for the best steak sandwiches there ever was. We connected with Doug & Diane right off the first time we walked through the door. It just felt like family. Diane was particularly drawn to our Daughter Jessica who also had red hair. Whom she lovingly called Jessi. After Doug passed away, everything changed. We saw Diane briefly a few times through the years, but the bond we all once had was gone. Life does that. It changes people. “Cherish The Memories”.
