David W. Herzog

Resided in Rapid River, MI
Died July 23, 2020

David W. Herzog, age 59, of Rapid River, passed away on Thursday, July
23, 2020.

Dave was born on January 20, 1961 in Fort Knox, Kentucky, the son of
Frederick and Nancy (Kossow) Herzog. He moved to the Stonington
Peninsula with his family and later graduated from Rapid River High
School in 1978. He attended Bay College in Escanaba and was just one
course short of his degree, as the college would not offer the final
class he needed.

On June 16, 1978, Dave married the love of his life and high school
sweetheart, Lynn M. Leadman. Together the couple were blessed with four
children: Pamela (Jason) Frossard of Escanaba, David (Shannah) Herzog of
Gladstone, Casey Selvik of Waupaca, Wis., and Tricia (Greg) Rose of
Clintonville, Wis.; and 13 grandchildren: Brett and Alexia Frossard;
David, Blake, Maximus, and Coralee Herzog; Ovid Deace, Logan Deace, and
Ethan Selvik; and Cassidy, Cadence, Gwendolyn, and Giselle Rose. He is
also survived by his mother-in-law, Joan Leadman of Escanaba. He will
be missed by numerous family and friends.

Dave was an avid car enthusiast and had a particular interest in 1968
Cutlasses. He spent countless hours searching for parts and traveled
across the country for his restoration projects. Dave also enjoyed
riding his motorcycles. Much to his disappointment, ongoing health
issues prevented him from continuing his hobbies. Dave also loved
hunting, fishing, target practicing, and four-wheeling with his
grandchildren. He was an avid fan of the Detroit Lions and an ardent
supporter of the Second Amendment. Dave enjoyed gardening and bargain
hunting alongside his mother and continued those activities after she
passed.

More than anything else, Dave’s biggest love was for his family. He
cared for his mother after his father passed and cherished the time they
spent together. He took great pride in the family he and Lynn built
together and would do anything for his children and grandchildren.
Dave’s grandkids knew that they could easily wrap Papa around their fingers.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Edward
Leadman.

A celebration of life is planned for Saturday, August 8 at 2 p.m. at the
Rapid River Lions Club. The family encourages a casual gathering of
friends and family for a luncheon afterward until 4 p.m.

The Herzog family is being assisted by the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba.
