David Henry Potter, age 62, of Puerto Vallarta, MX, passed away suddenly in his home on Saturday October, 27, 2018.
Born on August 7, 1956, in West Covina, CA, the son of John and Jacqueline (Gingrass) Potter.
During the late 1950’s and 60’s, David grew up in Azusa, CA, attending Dalton and Slauson schools. In 1968, his mother moved the family to Escanaba, MI, where David resided until 1977. He then moved to the Chicagoland area in Illinois where he started his Mexican food restaurants, the Potter’s Place. The love for Mexican food propelled David into opening 3 restaurants in the Chicagoland Area. The original Potter’s place in Naperville, IL. is still operating, but under new ownership. You can still order David’s namesake burrito, “The Christmas Tree.” The love for the outdoors brought David back to the U.P. many times during his adulthood. He was able to partake in his passions of camping, fishing, and hunting. As the years went by, David spent more time in Mexico. Eventually, his residence was Puerto Vallarta.
In addition to his Mother, David is survived by:
Children: Terra (Harley) Potts, Zachary, Christina, and Jessica Potter.
Two Brothers: James (Geri) Potter
Richard Potter
3 Sisters: Jane (Jim) Korntved
Catherine Potter
Anne Bousquet.
He was preceded in death by his Father, John R. Potter.
On February 16, 2019, a memorial mass will be held at All Saints Catholic Church in gladstone, MI, with Rev. Fr. Jamie Ziminski officiating. At 3:00 PM family and close friends will meet at the Family Inn in Escanaba, MI. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Potter family.

RIP David. Condolences to his family. It’s a shame his little girls have been excluded from his memorial; but thank you for at least acknowledging them in the obituary.

A very close friend. I met him at his first ‘Potters Place’. Spent a few years working for him… I can still hear his laugh… Always with incredible humor. Greatly missed my friend.
