Dave Kincaide, 91, of Escanaba, passed away Friday morning, Aug. 27, 2010, at the Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.
Dave was born April 26, 1919 on Washington Island, Wisconsin, the son of David and Nora (Malloch) Kincaide. He was raised between Washington Island and St. Martin Island, in Wisconsin, where his father was a lighthouse keeper. Dave graduated from the Washington Island School and shortly thereafter joined the Merchant Marines. A few years later he was enlisted in the United Sates Navy and served his country proudly during World War II. Dave moved to the Milwaukee area following his discharge from the Navy. He met and married Anola Lichtenwaler on January 14, 1945 in Hartford, Wisconsin, near Milwaukee.

Dave worked as a shoe salesman with the Wolverine and Wohl Shoe Companies for over 30 years until his retirement in 1983. He also found time to coach Little League Baseball for many years and was the founder of the South Kent County Recreation Association in Wyoming, Michigan. Upon retirement, he moved to Garden for a while and finally settled in Escanaba where he has resided for the last several years. Dave remained active following retirement. He turned his hobby of smoking fish into a business, operating Kincaide Smoked Fish in both Garden and Escanaba. He was a member of the Bayde Noc Golden K Kiwanis Club in Escanaba, serving as an officer for a few years. He was a foster grandparent at several Escanaba Elementary Schools and coordinated benefit dinners and fund raisers for local charities.

Dave was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed boating, fishing and gardening. He loved to play cards and was a competitive cribbage player. He loved to organize tournaments. Most importatnly Dave was unconditionally loving and devoted to his family and friends.

Dave is survived by:

2 sons: Pat Kincaide of Escanaba, MI; Keith Kincaide of Baguio City, Philippines

1 daughter: Kathleen (Daryl) Worthley of Bark River, MI

7 Grandchildren: Taylor Kincaide, Chrissy (Jason) Launderville, Kyle and Trevor Worthley, Juliete, David Kincaide and Hanzel Kincaide

4 Great grandchildren: Savannah Kincaide, Jaedyn Launderville, Karl Kincaide and Kyle Kincaide

1 sister: Barb Anderson of North Carolina

Numerous nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anola on May 31, 2004; his son, Scott in 1988; his great grandson, Alex in 2000; his parents; two brothers, Donald and William and three sisters, Genevieve, Ella and Virginia.

Dave’s family will receive friends on Friday, September 3 from 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM at the Skradski-Boyce Funeral Home in Escanaba. Military Rites will be conducted at 11:45 AM by the Delta County Veterans Council at the funeral home. Memorial Services will be held at 12:00 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Darin Kelsey officiaiting. A luncheon will be served at 1:30 PM at the Harbor Towers in Escanaba. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Dave’s name may be directed to the American Lung Association.
