Courtney R. Mackie, Sr., age 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at his home in Gladstone.

Courtney was born March 2, 1940 in Gladstone, the son of William and Doris (Artley) Mackie. He attended school in Escanaba and worked for the Mead Paper Corporation for over 25 years, retiring in 2000. While working at Mead he met the love of his life, Judy Griebel. They were united in marriage on April 4, 1989. They enjoyed traveling, spending time in Lake Havisu, AZ and going to the casinos. Courtney was a kind hearted man who loved his family and spending time with them. He coached Little League Baseball and followed his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events through the years. He also enjoyed visits from his neighbors cat, Sunny.

Courtney is survived by his daughters, Cherie (Jerry) Drossard and Christine (Harley) Bingham, both of Gladstone; step-sons, Phil (Becky) Griebel of Escanaba and Garin (Julie) Griebel of Onalaska, WI; daughter-in-law, Angie Mackie of Menominee; grandchildren, Caylib, Savannah and Dustin Mackie, Jason Drossard, Derek Lindahl, Drew (Samantha), Bailey, Lilly and Joey Griebel and Scott Bingham, 3 great grandchildren; siblings, Thomas Mackie, Pat Goes, Mary Hilger, Sandy Bero and Barb Ingram and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy, son, Courtney Mackie Jr., grandson, Dwayne “DJ” Feathers, brother, William Mackie and sisters, Audrey Peterson, Carolyn Berry and Kathleen Everett.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 26 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Memorial services will follow at 5:00 PM with Fr. Jamie Ziminski officiating.

Masks and social distancing are required upon entering the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Courtney’s name may be directed to the Delta County Cancer Society.

    So very sorry for your loss. Cherie I remember your Dad was always nice to me when we were young. I remember him teasing us in your kitchen. Big hugs to you and your family.

    I love you brother and will miss you terribly. I do get some comfort in knowing you are with your beloved Judy, Court Jr., DJ and other family members. May you rest in peace.

    Courtney was a wonderful neighbor! Always so sweet and never forgot our boys’ names and never cared when they threw toys over the fence lol. We will sure miss him as our neighbor. I always enjoyed catching up with him. Thoughts and prayers to his family.

    Deepest sympathy to the family. Courtney and Judy were both the nicest people. My husband and I both worked at the mill with them. We still have and use an antique stove we bought from them years ago. They are both missed.
